Gannon University’s Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences invites applications for a new dual-appointment position as an Assistant Professor and Environmental Sustainability Coordinator to begin August 2017. This position is a nine-month, tenure track position in the undergraduate Public Health program located at the Erie, Pennsylvania campus. In addition, this position assumes an administrative appointment to serve the University as the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator. Release time will be provided to fulfill the administrative responsibilities associated with this appointment. The Environmental Sustainability Coordinator will be responsible for encouraging sustainability as a lived reality of the University Mission, advancing sustainability knowledge and innovation across campus, helping the university minimize our environmental footprint, and promoting environmental wellness on campus and within our communities.
Requirements include a Ph.D. (completed by fall 2017) in biology, chemistry, environmental science, environmental public health, or related field and 3-5 years of experience in leading environmental sustainability in higher education or the community. Expertise in the area of environmental sustainability or environmental health preferred; experience in curriculum design, teaching and research, program management, partnership development required; knowledge of environmental sustainability practices, plus government standards and regulations preferred. The ability to capitalize on our unique location relative to Lake Erie to promote formal and informal educational opportunities for students and community members is preferred.
The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues, deliver instruction, advise students, engage in scholarly activities in keeping with the Boyer Model of Scholarship, and engage in University, professional, and community service activities. Candidates with experience teaching and advising undergraduate students and evidence of mentoring undergraduate students in research are preferred. Instructional responsibilities will be commensurate with the candidate’s area of expertise within the undergraduate Public Health curriculum. Ideally, candidates will have experience using course management systems for purposes of instruction and advising. Candidates must be able to support and promote the University’s inclusive Mission, its Catholic identity, and its liberal arts and professional education traditions.
