SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, RowanSOM (CFO), provide leadership in developing the analytical and financial planning in support of various strategic financial and operational objectives for RowanSOM, encompassing the school?s mission and strategic plan. Areas of accountability include; fair market valuation (FMV) review/analysis of focused and non-focused arrangement contracts, comparative data analysis and benchmarking, cost analyses, school report and survey preparation and submission plus long range financial planning and development. Supervise decision support department personnel related to above functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Develop and maintain a customer service driven work environment within all areas of responsibility. Provide guidance, instruction and direction to peer group and provide recommendations and advice to senior management on all aspects of duties and responsibilities. Collaborate with peer group on implementation of senior management directives/initiatives.
Directly responsible for the due diligence process to ensure adherence to procedures in the review and execution of all Rowan Medicine focused and non-focused arrangement contract initiatives including detail review of all pertinent factors.
After appropriate detail review/analysis, provide recommendation to the CFO for the financial FMV approval of all focused and non-focused arrangement contracts in accordance with protocols jointly developed by the Finance, Compliance and Legal Management departments. Advise CFO of any issues that result in conflict with meeting FMV.
Monitor focused and non-focused arrangement contract expiration dates in conjunction with the Meditract system and, as needed, notifies the department to ensure timely submission of all contract renewal documents including cost of living adjustment increases where applicable.
Manage the preparation and review of assessment of clinical faculty productivity comparative to budget and industry benchmarks. As needed, provide analysis to CFO regarding physician compensation changes.
Manage the preparation and review of related financial data for evaluating new programs, recruitment initiatives and joint ventures including data to support senior management decision making in the areas of market research, ambulatory studies, new business development, market opportunities, etc. as it relates to the school?s mission and strategic plan.
Maintain a collaborative relationship with CFO support departments including Budget and Accounting, as well as Rowan Medicine support departments including Billing Office, Managed Care and IRT and other key departments as applicable, e.g. Compliance and Legal Management in order to facilitate dissemination of relevant data to aid in the preparation of financial analysis and develop group strategies for problem-solving.
Accountable to the CFO for activities related to the compilation, interpretation and provision of financial and strategic planning analyses pertaining to existing and proposed hospital affiliation agreements as they relate to graduate medical education. Directly responsible for all high level financial analyses related to the ACGME single accreditation requirements. Advise CFO of relevant risks and suggests remedial solutions.
Directly responsible for the periodic analysis (minimum quarterly) of financial balances of grants and contracts. In coordination with OSP, provide oversight for the remediation of any deficits in grants and contracts funds.
Directly responsible for the creation and ongoing analysis of an inventory of RowanSOM philanthropic funds held by NJHF and the Rowan Foundation.
Manage the preparation and review of feasibility studies and ROI (Return on Investment) calculations for capital planning and other projects with multi-year projected outcomes. Advise CFO of relevant operational risks and planning issues and suggest remedial solutions where applicable.
Manage the coordination and compilation of financial information, analyze and prepare responses as they arise for major institutional surveys from outside organizations such as AOA, AACOM, etc.
Manage procurement and maintain an inventory of all required financial information such as annual benchmarking data products from organizations such as MGMA, AAMC, AMGA and Sullivan-Cotter, etc.
Prepare relevant trend analyses for key revenue and expense components to ensure the viability of operating budget assumptions. Support collaboration with the Finance department in planning and assessment of the school?s annual budget.
Support senior management in planning and assessment of the school?s annual strategic planning process through analysis of identified institutional opportunities, risks, and key trends.
Provides work direction to financial staff in the performance of their assignments.
Develop and utilize database queries for departmental use in financial and trending analysis, forecasting and developing strategic initiatives.
Conduct special duties to analyze complex financial actions and make recommendations for policy, procedure, control and/or action.
Perform all necessary research, financial and analytical functions for special projects as assigned.
Understand and adhere to Rowan University?s compliance standards. Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rowan University regulation, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
Ensure that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor?s Degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field plus six (6) years of relevant experience in related fiscal activities. Experience with MS Office software applications required. Experience with Banner financial software applications preferred. Related experience in an educational, government, or health care setting is also preferred.
