The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington is a nationally ranked education and research program. Located on the main Seattle campus of the University of Washington, UW Electrical Engineering currently supports greater than 750 undergraduate and graduate students and over 50 active research faculty. The Department of Electrical Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer-Senior in the UW NNCI Washington Nanofabrication Facility. This position will also support nanofabrication processes in the facility.
Maintain and lead training and operations of the JEOL JBX-6300FS Electron Beam Lithography (EBL) system including running tests, actual work and ensuring that the system is stable, while consistently diagnosing any potential problems which may arise. Train students and other users to operate the EBL system and work on E-Beam lithography process flows. This person will work on projects from outside UW (commercial, non-UW academic, and government) to support the tool financially and work on nanophotonics research building cutting-edge nanoscale devices. This will have a direct impact on projects in EE and collaborator's groups, representing several million dollars per year of direct funding. Supervise student assistants and undergraduates as tool operators on the Electron Beam Lithography and other relevant instrumentation. Teach students and postdocs how to effectively evaluate the performance of the Electron Beam Lithography for their projects. Advise research graduate students working on cutting edge device fabrication.
Directs and reviews work of students and postdocs, provides performance evaluations and input to project PI's on hiring, tasking, and corrective actions on under-performing projects. Assisting colleagues in their activities and fabrication in other areas of fabrication. Consulting with users on active and potential projects to identify low-risk options to meet customer fabrication goals.
PhD. in engineering or science, or similar area of study and at least 6 years of experience running Electron- Beam Lithography systems. Or M.S. in engineering, physics, or similar area of study and at least 8 years of experience.
