The Dean of Students directs the Office of the Dean of Students which includes the Office of Admissions, Career Services, and Academic Advising. He or she is a member of the Dean's Senior Leadership Team and provides leadership and management in recruitment and enrollment planning, funding and admission to the master's and doctoral programs, and student affairs for the School's 540 students. The Dean of Students is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic plan for student services and the Office of the Dean of Students, tracking of master's and doctoral student progress, managing a budget of 20 million for tuition revenue and aid, collection and analysis of data on recruitment, admissions, enrollment, student progress, and financial aid. Serves as a primary unit liaison to the Registrar, Bursar, Student Loan Administration, Student Health Service, Student Counseling Service, Coordinator for Student Disabilities, Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, Office of International Affairs, Campus and Student Life, U Chicago grad, and other central student offices. The Dean of Students supervises the Assistant Dean of Students, Director of Admissions, Assistant Dean and Director of Career Services, and support staff. The Dean of Students collaborates with faculty and the Office of Field Education to set student policies and is responsible for student discipline and crisis response in the School; maintains a regular schedule of student appointments and advises on a wide range of topics including university and school policies, academic concerns, registration requirements, financial aid, degree options, disability accommodations, harassment, leaves of absence and personal issues. The DOS works closely with SSA's Deputy Dean for Curriculum, Chair of the Doctoral Program and field education staff to ensure the highest quality educational standards and experience at SSA. The Dean of Students serves as a catalyst for ideas and programs to enhance student involvement in SSA and the University and the quality of student life. Collaborates with student government and manages and supports student activities; works closely with other senior administrators and faculty to overall execute a professionally demanding and high quality educational experience for Masters and Ph.D. students in all facets of their education.
