The Manager for the Center for Pathology Services (CPRS), under the general guidance of the CFO, is responsible for all business, regulatory and operational activities of CPRS, located within the David Geffen School of Medicine. Provide regulatory/compliance support for all clinical/clinical research act ivies of core laboratories within the Department of Pathology Research Services. Work with UCLA researchers, including Clinical Trials personnel, outside University, industry, government research projects to assure development, execution and completion including budgeting, recharge, invoice, tissue procurement/processing/storage/shipping/distribution, updated data entry into biorepository tracking software and compliance with clinical testing requirements. Ensure laboratory operations meet CAP/CLIA standards and that biorepository(ies) and core laboratories have appropriate CAP/CLIA certification. Coordinate and supervise data management, client services and clerical personnel. Take on additional administrative assignments including organization and implementation of new programs as needs arise including clerical organization of CLIA and CAP. Coordinate advertisement, interviews, hire and evaluation process of all laboratory personnel. Ensure recharge for all studies and testing. Provide leadership and direction in financial analysis, budget management, purchasing/materials management and administration for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine's Sales & Service activities (including the Immunogenetics Center).
A Bachelor's Degree in business, finance or other related field is strongly preferred. Must have 3-5 years of Fund Management experience. Able to establish and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships with professional, administrative and technical personnel and collaborators to expedite research projects (clinicians including study nurses, researchers, and UCLA & non-UCLA lab personnel). Able to act responsibly as a representative of the Research Services, biorepository and Department of Pathology, as needed. Experience writing comprehensive job descriptions and personnel evaluations to cover the work/scope of the lab. Knowledge of medical and research terminology for preparing protocols, reports and charges to insure communication for project management. Able to write memos and letters according to standard University business format using correct grammar and composition. Knowledge of computer and data management practices and applications: WORD, EXCEL, FILE PRO, WordPerfect, (programming not essential). Familiarity with University policies and regulations.
