The School Nurse (RN)will provide healthcare for students in a special education environment between the ages of three and fourteen years old. The ideal candidate will have prior school nursing experience and be familiar with New York State and City school nursing policy. This is a full time position (12-months) with office hours running from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. five days per week.
Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Attend to the immediate health needs of all students including injury and sickness and communication with families.
Daily medication administration and recording, compliant with NYC and NYS requirements.
Create, communicate, and facilitate all medical policies and procedures to students, faculty, and parents, including but not limited to food, field trips, and day-to-day on campus activities.
Oversee and facilitate school compliance with all state regulations and mandates, including student screening, record keeping, medication administration and paperwork.
Monitor family compliance with submissions to Magnus SMR, our electronic medical records system.
Order and stock necessary supplies for the nurse’s office for all school related medical needs, including nursing supplies, classroom supplies (emergency go bags), and first aid kits.
Oversee and facilitate the paperwork and medical clearances for all EMS physical education and athletic participation.
Schedule, plan, and oversee the three lice checks held during the school year for students.
Schedule, plan and oversee CPR/First Aid certification course offered for faculty and staff before the start of the school year.
Schedule, plan and oversee flu shot clinic offered to faculty and staff during the school year.
Monitor daily student attendance.
Refer children and families for appropriate follow up medical care, contact families to follow up on absences and medical conditions.
Attend two school wide field trips annually (Apple Picking and Field Day).
Current New York State RN license
Minimum two years recent medical experiencecoupled with strong assessment and organizational skills
Nursing degree froman accredited college or university
Experience as a nurse working with children, specifically in K-8 strongly preferred
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Attention to detail, plus the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of administrators, teachers, faculty and staff are essential.
Expertise in Microsoft Office applications required
Familiar with both Mac and PC programs
