The Division is recruiting for 2 Assistant Deans, one each in Housing & Residence Life (HRL) and the Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS).

Assistant Deans in the Division of Student Affairs have programmatic, student support, and incident response responsibilities.
Programmatic responsibilities depend on the particular Assistant Dean's assignment, but might include program design, implementation, and/or support services related to the assigned program. Often UVa Student Affairs professionals are not managing programs themselves, but are supporting students in designing and implementing the programs. Programmatic activities include Student Activities, Public Service, Career Services, Housing & Residence Life, Orientation & New Student Programs, Multicultural Student Services and other programs supporting historically underserved students, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Prevention & Education, and Incident Response.
Student support responsibilities include mentoring, training, and/or supervising student leaders and/or student workers, as well as helping students solve problems and respond appropriately to challenges and/or crises. Through formal and informal interaction, student affairs professionals assist students to achieve their goals. These interactions may include responding to student walk-ins; responding to questions from parents, faculty or staff; or meeting with students who have interpersonal problems, policy violations, psychological issues, or other concerns in order to counsel, mediate resolutions, or set expectations for future behavior.
Finally, Assistant Deans serve on the "Dean On-Call" rotation, and have other responsibilities relating to incident response and crisis management.
The anticipated hiring range for the positions is $ 62,000 to $ 65,000 and is commensurate with qualifications.

Required Minimum Level of Education: *Degree or Equivalent Experience Required
Required Specific Degree/Training: Master's degree or equivalent in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, or a terminal degree in a relevant field such as Law
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years

Understanding of psychological support and cognitive development models related to support and development of college students.
Strong knowledge of student affairs practices and student development as applied to a diverse range of programmatic areas.
A demonstrated mastery of managing student conduct issues, providing outstanding student advising and support, and excelling in a fast-paced work environment with multiple competing priorities.
