Works as a member of the emergency health care team under the clinical supervision of the Charge Nurse/ Registered Nurse; performs such direct and/or indirect duties necessary to provide quality patient care in an efficient manner.
Fosters, participates and is knowledgeable in Shared Governance as defined at St. Mary's Hospital using the conceptual framework for nursing practice as a guide. Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional practice, continuing education and competency (i.e., mandatory in service, staff meetings). Seeks learning opportunities.
Performs breath analyzer testing and maintenance of equipment (Point of Care testing).
Shares expertise and knowledge with coworkers and peers. Assists in orientation of new nursing personnel. Supports the activities, decisions and initiative of colleagues.
Responds to patients' requests for assistance and answers call lights promptly. Assists with transfer and transportation of patients. Assists the Registered Nurse with the taking and/or recording of patient's temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight and fluid status and bedside glucose and notifies Registered Nurse of significant findings.
Punctual for reports/breaks. Uses supplies effectively. Completes work within required shift, i.e., end of shift; OT minimal or nonexistent.
Obtain EKG's for patients in emergent/urgent situations and as able.
Performs messenger service and delivers equipment to departments. Orders and stocks supplies as needed. Performs routine cleaning duties.
Answers phones, takes and relays messages.
Draws blood on adult and pediatric patients. Identifies patients using two means and correctly labels all specimens that are drawn. Reviews bar code orders and sorts them according to the date and time to be collected, and ensures the specimen is collected at the proper time.
Assembles patient chart on admission, generates patient labels and initiates log entry. Enters charges, processes patient records and completes the patient log entry.
Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of State approved Nursing Assistant Certification Course, completion of basic Emergency Medical Technician course, or must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing; required to provide proof of a passing grade in the "Fundamentals" class.
Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification or Wisconsin EMT-B license.
Current employees must maintain BLS certification. New hires must achieve certification within 3 months of hire
Previous patient care experience is preferred.
Previous experience in acute care setting preferred.
