The Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet) seeks a Tier 2 Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician to support the overall mission of the group and in particular to monitor the OARnet backbone and act as the first point of escalation for technical issues.
Role and Responsibilities: Pro-actively monitors the OARnet backbone and acts as the first point of escalation for technical issues in a 24×7 NOC; creates and manages trouble tickets in coordination with the Service Desk to respond to network alarms and events; conducts network maintenance following established procedures; assesses, monitors, and confirms the impact of network outages and scheduled vendor maintenance; provides direct customer support and assists clients in troubleshooting performance and connectivity problems; identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves network circuit failures; follows escalation procedures to ensure that critical issues are addressed in a timely manner; actively works with Engineering and Client Services groups to support OARnet services; other duties as assigned. May be required to be available during off duty hours and/or on call. This is a second shift position.
Work Environment and Culture: The Tier 2 NOC Technician will report to the Tier 2 Engineering Manager at the Ohio Technology Consortium main office, located on Ohio State University's West Campus. The Consortium functions as an umbrella organization for Ohio's statewide technology infrastructure which includes: The Ohio Super Computer Center (OSC), the Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet), OhioLINK, and eStudent Services. Funded by the Ohio General Assembly through the Ohio Department of Higher Education, OH-TECH reports to the Chancellor for the Ohio Department of Higher Education. All fiscal and legal services are provided by the Ohio State University, with direction from the Vice President of Research. Through committees and direct contact with faculty and student researchers, OH-TECH is well-positioned to meet the needs of those who require our resources. To plan for future acquisitions and services, OH-TECH relies upon the guidance of the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the advice of committees to achieve and sustain national eminence.
OARnet delivers technology-based solutions that reduce costs, increase productivity and improve customer service – and has done so since 1987. As a division of the Ohio Department of Higher Education's Ohio Technology Consortium, OARnet serves Ohio's education, health care, public broadcasting and government communities. The OARnet network blankets the state, consisting of more than 2,240 miles of fiber-optic backbone, with more than 1,500 miles of it operating at ultrafast 100 Gbps speeds.
OARnet expects all of its members will uphold and embody its core principles of providing connectivity to Ohio's colleges and universities, K-12 schools, public broadcasting stations, academic medical centers, government agencies and partnering organizations.

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; working knowledge of fundamental networking concepts and protocols; demonstrable ability to configure and troubleshoot Juniper or Cisco routers and switches; possesses a current Juniper or Cisco associate level certification; strong customer service skills.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field; experience working in a network operation center or supporting a service provider network; deep understanding of fundamental networking concepts and protocols; working knowledge of scripting and automation tools such as Python and Bourne Shell.
Target Salary: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 Annually
