SUMMARY We are currently working with a specialized manufacturer to identify an HR & Safety Director. The HR & Safety Director will report to the business unit President, and support an employee base of approximately 100 employees across multi locations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The ideal incumbent of this position will possess diverse HR experience across all generalist areas of HR, and have worked in smaller sized companies where they were required to be hands on across those areas. The successful candidate will be hands on, results oriented, and focused on continuous improvement.
In summary, the HR & Safety Director will direct and manage the full spectrum of human resources functions including employee relations, benefits, safety, recruitment, training, payroll, and workers compensation. This individual will work closely with all company leaders to develop appropriate people related strategies and policies, and maintain high employee engagement and safety.
POSITION Responsibilities include: • Direct all aspects of HR and Safety for this business unit. • Work closely with the business unit’s leadership team to develop and implement relevant policies, goals, procedures, and systems; foster a culture of engagement and accountability. • Abide by and champion all policies and procedures established by the company including plant safety rules and regulations and support ethical business practices. • Monitor critical performance, absenteeism, staffing, compensation, legal issues, disabilities, attrition, and other employee metrics. Use data to make recommendations to leadership. • Oversee / coordinate safety programs / policies with operations managers. Monitor / communicate safety related metrics and make recommendations for improvement. • Oversee benefits & compensation administration. Provide recommendations for salary ranges based on knowledge of market & salary surveys. • Oversee workers’ compensation administration. • Motivate, develop and counsel employees. • Recruitment including writing job descriptions, postings, screening candidates, scheduling and conducting interviews, onboarding. • Handle personnel matters and support managers in all people related matters including discipline. • Maintain / update employee handbooks. • Facilitate direct communication between employees and management, including one on one communications, newsletters, roundtables, open houses, surveys, employee appreciation events, etc. • Oversee legal compliance including but not limited to: AAP, ADA, ADEA, Drug Free Workplace Act, EOO, ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, HIPAA, NLRA, Workers Compensation, USERRA. • Collaborate with the parent company’s HR department as necessary. • Travel to business unit locations to connect with and support employees. Anticipated travel: 15-20%.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field, or commensurate level of related experience and education. Master’s degree in related area preferred. • Minimum of 7 years in human resources management role within a manufacturing company. • Must have experience in employment, training / development, safety, benefits, compensation, employee relations, payroll, and all government compliance. • Experience managing and resolving conflicts. • Ability to speak Spanish a plus. • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen.
