The ideal candidate will have national association experience in the Washington D.C. market, soliciting new business in the Meetings & Convention market, sending leads to hotel and convention center sales as well as the meeting industry. Must also have ability to travel overnight to D.C region with experience in packaging citywide opportunities, negotiations, special deals, rebates, and other negotiating tools to develop business proposal and presentations. Candidate must also have experience with the formal bid process and be able to make presentations to Meeting Planners, Board of Directors, and/or Government agencies. Candidate will also be required to identify target account list and develop tailored marketing plan in accordance with VBCVB sales goals and booking guidelines.
Under DOS supervision, the sales manager plans and executes sales strategy on prospects and maximizes chances of successfully closing the “sale”, especially as it relates to the booking of the Virginia Beach Convention Center and off-season business. Candidate will possess ability to multi-task by researching and developing marketing strategies to include:
Prospecting, planning and execution of sales missions, presentations (local and national), site visits, FAMs and tradeshow representation - resulting in leads/Tentatives and ultimately bookings for the City of Virginia Beach.
The ideal candidate performs convention and trade show solicitation in assigned market territories with the ability to close and book business in the national/regional meetings arena. The candidate will be required to travel 15%-25% and will perform travel in a manner that makes optimum use of time, money, and material resources and serves as a liaison/leader with hoteliers and industry partners and maintains good working relationships with local and internal partners. Candidate possesses outstanding communication skills, high energy and strong customer relations skills, accurately prepares monthly reports and other documents as needed in a timely and efficient manner and is a team player.

Fluent knowledge of hospitality/ meeting industry and its terminology; Preference of four to six years of national sales experience successfully selling to the national association/meetings market in which knowledge, skills and abilities center around direct sales efforts in CVBs, convention centers, hotels and other hospitality-related venues. Candidate should offer a robust portfolio of strong customer relations established in the national arena that includes: • Nat'l Meeting & Convention / Destination Sales Experience • DC / Northeast Assn Sales Experience • Convention Hotel or Convention Center Sales Experience • Meeting / Association Planning Experience • Hospitality Customer Relationship Management Database or similar database experience • Experience in industry committees/boards • CMP, CHSP, or other industry related certifications • Client Relationship Development Experience Works effectively in Microsoft Word, excel, graphics, power point and has the ability to learn/embrace a sales software management system (Simpleview if possible) with ease. Ability to accurately maintain and prepare records in a timely fashion. An excellent oral and written communicator with the ability to make minor decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies: a “solution manager” and team player. Is able to do the following: • Llift/move boxes/objects in a range of 5lbs to 35lbs; • Stand for extended periods of time as needed with regards to direct sales efforts; • Work and travel outside of the normal Monday through Friday 8am-5pm as needed (15%-25% travel); • Work as part of a team and participate with the team as needed for special projects and/or goals as directed
