Villanova Preparatory School, founded in 1924, is a college-preparatory Catholic high school founded on the Augustinian values of love, truth, and community. VPS has a population of approximately 260 resident and day students. The school is seeking a Director of Development to advance the mission of the school, work collegially with all constituencies, provide structure and direction for the school’s fundraising activities, and support the Head of School’s vision for the future of the school.
The Director of Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a plan for attracting, maintaining, and increasing voluntary support to the school. The position oversees all fundraising activities including annual giving, planned giving, events, special projects, and volunteer management. The position reports to the Head of School and supervises three staff members. Specific areas of responsibility include:
Overall Planning and Goal-Setting: Working with the Head of School and the Development Committee of the Board of Directors, create an operating plan with defensible goals and a calendar of activity that is integrated into the school’s operations.
Annual Fund & Other Unrestricted Giving: Create and implement a plan for increased support for unrestricted purposes from parents, past parents, grandparents, selected community members and alumni.
Major Gift Development: Create and implement a plan to identify and cultivate for solicitation purposes a group of major gift prospects for large gifts to Villanova Preparatory School.
Experience in Annual Giving, major solicitation and planned giving.
Excellent written and verbal skills.
General management skills, including personal management and experience with mentoring staff.
Have strong interpersonal and networking skills.
Be an effective time manager, self-starter, and task manager.
Experience in managing volunteers, including members of governing boards.
Have a strong understanding of the distinctive nature of Catholic education.
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience in development work preferred.
