The George Mason University College of Science invites well-qualified candidates to apply for a Term Assistant Professor of Medical Science position in the Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program (EMDP2). The George Mason University Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program (EMDP2) is a small federally contracted program within the College of Science. We seek an enthusiastic and energetic individual who can:
Teach graduate-level neuroscience courses and undergraduate anatomy and physiology courses;
Serve on the pre-medical committee, provide pre-med advising, and write effective letters of recommendation for students;
Assist with administrative duties such as processing actions through the admissions' office and the registrar's office; and
Assist the Program Director with varied tasks related to the program.
Earned Ph.D. in biology or a related field;
Experience teaching neuroscience lectures at the graduate level;
Experience teaching human anatomy and physiology laboratory courses at the undergraduate level;
Direct experience with pre-medical advising;
Knowledge of the medical school application process;
Ability to provide workshops for students preparing for admission to medical school;
Excellent writing skills;
Experience writing effective letters of recommendation for students applying to medical school;
Knowledge of and ability to use Ellucian Banner (student information system), CourseLeaf (course management system) or similar, and Microsoft Office suite;
Knowledge of higher education and student services;
Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students and with the administrative offices at a large public institution;
Strong interpersonal communication skills; and
Occasional travel will be required, as well as some non-standard working hours (such as weekends or evenings).
Interest in and commitment to working with U.S. military members who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine.
Salary: Anticipated starting salary is $60,000 to $65,000
