This position is responsible for the managing the Europe & North America markets. You will be the point of contact for our tourism partners, clients and representation firms within assigned markets. The Sales Manager is responsible for lead generation, budgeting, programming and management and overall sourcing of business to the destination from potential visitor markets that meet SMTT established annual goals and objectives.
Manage assigned annual budget for approved projects, programs, trade events and FAM for assigned markets.
Complete required financial reporting on assigned projects, markets and programs; inclusive of in-kind partner fees and billings.
Manage the country specific budgets in collaboration with representation firms and through the guidance of the President/CEO.
Attends key activities in assigned markets, and other markets as necessary.
Responsible for communications to international agencies and clients, ensuring most relevant and timely information on destination is obtained and distributed.
Works with Industry Partners (examples: LATCB, Visit California, Brand USA) to optimize efforts in international markets.
Meets regularly with destination peers to for information exchange of updates on products and trends and opportunities in assigned markets.
Manage Receptive Operator relationships for assigned markets.
Be abreast of trends and research for national & international travel trade business to be informed and equipped to suggest and implement optimal campaign strategies.
Support marketing department conceptualizing and redesigning of sales tools and materials as needed.
Creates synergies with other departments on projects related to international marketing or trade:
PR: Travel trade media.
Marketing: Sales e-Newsletters & Sales campaign support / outreach.
Visitor Services: Welcoming clients and visitors.
Client Services: FAMs & Leads.
Coordinates site visits and familiarization tours (FAMs) in destination for clients from assigned markets - and other markets as needed.
Tracks monthly reports and campaign results for Dashboard and Department reporting. Assist SMTT team with delivering established annual department goals and SMTT annual business plan.
Facilitates accounting reviews for monthly invoices.
Ensures research and associated reporting for assigned markets is accurate and up-to-date.
Co-facilitate all aspects of IPW Annual Trade Event with other sales manager.
Provide daily guidance to Sales Assistant, under the direction of the President/CEO.
Provide outline of Sales Assistant goals to President/CEO and support mid-year and the annual performance reviews in tandem with President/CEO.
Conduct weekly meetings with the Sales Assistant to ensure key projects and priorities are clearly defined, resources supported and guidance provided as necessary.
Train staff on SMTT Standard Operating Procedures.
Participates in overall SMTT programs as required.
Qualifications & Requirements (No relocation, must be CA resident)
Bachelors or Associates Degree or equivalent 6 years of related meeting planning or client services roles and/or training or combination of education and experience.
Proven customer service skill set and business etiquette practices; hospitality and retail industry a plus.
Knowledge of SMTT CRM or similar client management database.
Knowledge of Santa Monica area and hospitality background a plus.
Experience in hiring, training and coach/counseling staff is essential.
Strategic thinker and nimble manager.
Strong leadership, interpersonal and delegation skillset.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
Ability to maintain an on-going priority list by projects and tasks, to assume timely and effective solutions and unanticipated client issues.
Knowledge of office computer software, including Microsoft Office, Point of Sales
Systems, PowerPoint and Excel.
Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
Must have use of vehicle while conducting SMTT business & a California driver’s license, clean driving record, registration and auto insurance.
Must be able to travel for various SMTT programs/business, industry trade events and client activities.
