Fairfax County Health Department is seeking an experienced medical epidemiologist to provide medical and epidemiological strategic direction, overall leadership, supervision and oversight for the Division of Epidemiology and Population Health. Manages a team of multi-disciplinary staff in a division which is responsible for the surveillance and control of communicable, zoonotic, and environmentally related diseases; outbreak investigations; emerging health issues and the analysis and dissemination of population health data. Represents the division at national, state and local meetings as medical and epidemiology expert. Serves as policy advisor to the health eirector on epidemiologic issues and subject matter expert for the agency when communicating with health care providers, the general public, media, and other audiences on the medical and public health aspects of population health, disease control and transmission. Provides guidance on the design and development of surveys, health surveillance reports, publications, grants and research papers. Participates in agency-wide emergency planning and response activities. The salary range for this position is $136,795 - $202,660 annually.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited school of medicine and possession of a medical degree approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, preferably with a master's degree in public health or a related field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry, an Office of Inspector General (OIG), and a National Provider Identifier to the satisfaction of the employer.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Licensed at time of appointment to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable background and experience in epidemiology. Experience in population health and communicable diseases. Knowledge of zoonotic and tropical diseases. Experience working in public health setting. Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor, incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Must communicate with others. Employee may require to lift up to 15 lbs. (all duties). All duties perform with or without reasonable accommodations.
