We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Refrigeration Helper.
Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, the Refrigeration Helper will be responsible for Refrigeration Shop managed by the RED+F Department. Responsibilities include performing the duties peculiar to, and normally required in, the trade of refrigeration, following accepted procedures and techniques of the refrigeration trade as per the departmental guidelines.
Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Assists mechanic with all repairs, test, replace, install, and maintain refrigeration equipment; refrigerators, walk-in boxes, freezers, A/C units, ice machines and refrigeration related equipment.
Checks readiness of equipment for specialized work. Monitors and maintains inventory of disposals used old refrigeration equipment's, parts, filters.
Transports materials, tools, and equipment to the work site as needed. Requests material, tools, and equipment as needed from foreman and stockroom.
Change water filters for ice machines.
Protects public in working areas from bodily harm at all times. Protects equipment and tools from damage.
Keeps the work area neat at all times. Follows safety procedures and requirements as requested by the Department and Institution. Sanitizes ice machines and cleans water filters as needed. Responsible for cleaning A/C units, change filters, condensers as requested.
Must be able to individually lift a minimum of 100 lbs, and be able to, with assistance, move and transport materials and equipment weighing in excess of 200 lbs, with or without the use of assistive devises. Must be able to work in confined areas requiring bending or stooping for long periods of time and be able to work from ladders or elevated platforms. Must have near-visual acuity, depth perception and field of vision for using acetylene and oxy-acetylene, and color vision is needed in making electrical connections and soldering or splicing wires. The refrigeration mechanics work covers the full spectrum of refrigeration equipment at the Medical Center. This includes the hospital environment as well as educational and research facilities. Position will be required to work in all areas of the plant where the refrigeration equipment is located, as well as outdoors in all weather.
High school graduation or trade school degree in 3 (three) years of experience working in Construction, Real Estate, Architectural, Facilities or Health Services organization.
Demonstrated experience to cover the full spectrum of refrigeration equipment at the Medical Center. This includes the hospital environmental as well as educational and research facilities.
Will be required to work in all areas of the plant where the refrigeration equipment is located, as well as outdoors in all weather.
Previous foreman or supervisory experience is required.
Possesses a N.Y. C. FIRE DEPARTMENT unlimited refrigeration permits. Demonstrates leadership and interpersonal skills.
