CASL seeks a talented and energetic individual to join our highly experienced Director of Development, actively engaged leadership, and dynamic Board in growing our events portfolio from $770,000 to over $820,000 over the next 12 months and expanding our newly reinvigorated individual and corporate volunteer program. CASL provides an extremely well organized development program and annual plan to accomplish our philanthropic goals. We enjoy significant long-term relationships with corporate sponsors and event donors for both of our signature events – Annual Gala and Winter Benefit.

This is a full time exempt position primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects related to the creation, coordination and execution of annual fundraising events (80% of time) with a focus on CASL’s Winter Benefit and Annual Gala. This includes securing sponsorships, participant recruitment, volunteer involvement, team building, budget, timelines, evaluation and logistics. This position is also responsible for (20% time) planning, management and execution of CASL’s corporate and individual volunteer program including recruitment and retention.
Event Leadership – 80%
Lead the management and implementation of special events operations and production, including those with a fundraising and donor development focus.
Oversees all event solicitations, including managing the sponsorship solicitation process.
Oversees budget and logistics preparation.
Works closely with a variety of vendors and venues necessary for event execution.
Oversees and manages event project timelines.
Solicitation, marketing, management and implementation of auctions include:
Auction item solicitation strategy and materials
Auction item promotion strategy and materials
Auction table sponsor solicitation strategy and materials
Nurturing of auction committee volunteers
Day of event auction set-up, management, and implementation
Monitors and prepares ongoing event progress reports.
Manage event logistics coordination with the Facilities Department including set-up, take-down, pick-ups and deliveries, etc.
Evaluates event results and prepares recommendations for future events as needed.
Cultivates relationships and effectively engages volunteers.
Works with the Development team to cultivate event attendees.
Works with the Marketing and Communications Officer in the creation of special events promotional materials.
Assist in post-event thank you calls and communications to event attendees and supporters.
In conjunction with the Director of Development and Communications, support the Advisory Board and Associate Board in event planning.
Assist the Corporate and Foundation Officer with coordination of prospect and donor site visits.
Work with the Donor Information Administrator and Finance to balance expenses and revenues generated from events, including appropriate donor financial tracking and acknowledgment procedures.
Maintain knowledge of event module in Raiser’s Edge as they relate to specific events.
Complete special projects as assigned by the Director of Development and Communications
Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination – 20%
Manage all individual and corporate volunteer inquiries and recruit, screen, interview and train all types of volunteers.
Work with the Corporate and Foundation Giving Officer to identify interests in corporate volunteers.
Establish effective policies and procedures, including an updated volunteer handbook, to ensure a high quality experience for CASL volunteers.
Conduct outreach to and engage potential Chicagoland area volunteers.
Organize and conduct volunteer orientation.
Create and execute volunteer appreciation events and other volunteer related events.
Track volunteers in Raiser’s Edge to ensure appropriate moves management from volunteer to organizational donor.
Conduct, at minimum, an annual needs assessment with each program to determine individual and corporate volunteer needs.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Minimum three year’s work experience in event management required.
Must have a strong personal commitment to the mission, vision and values of CASL
Demonstrated success in planning and managing fundraising events.
Demonstrated success in external relationship management and securing volunteer targets.
Able to communicate (verbal and written) and work effectively with volunteers and staff.
Able to manage details and follow through with a minimum amount of direct supervision.
Superb organizational skills and attention to detail.
