This is a professional staff position that works on one or more sponsored projects and has the option of working on program development. Responsibilities include assisting the project director(s) in developing strategic partnerships with national, state and local criminal justice organizations in order to promote the mission of the Justice Program Office (JPO); assisting in the development and implementation of criminal justice policies and practices to ensure the fair administration of justice; and helping to plan, deliver, and assess training and technical assistance services and research-practitioner projects to federal, state, local, and tribal criminal justice agencies and units of government for American University-administered sponsored projects.
This position is contingent upon external funding.

A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration or a related field or equivalent in education, training, and experience is required. A Master’s degree in justice or public administration or a related field.
Two to three years of experience working with a federal, state or local criminal justice system
Demonstrated by knowledge of state and local justice systems
Expertise in survey administration, data analysis and interpretation
Demonstrated ability using statistical software and database implementation
Knowledge and experience conducting surveys and analyzing results
Demonstrated leadership skills in project management, specifically the ability to work independently on multiple tasks, finding creative means of solving problems and working in a fast-paced environment
Outstanding writing and oral communication skills
Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team
Proactive approach to work
Ability to notice what needs to be done and develop a strategy for responding
