Job Posting: The Medical Assistant supports the physician and/or clinician in the delivery of health care by performing a variety of medically related tasks. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Greet patients. 2. Manages patient care flow including but not limited to: a) Room patients b) Direct patients if ancillary services are ordered c) Notify physician of patient status 3. Prepare patients for provider by recording current medications in medical record 4. Takes vital signs and record in medical record as directed 5. Assess patient needs and s appropriately sets up exam room or procedure rooms 6. Assist provider during examination/procedure 7. Perform designated diagnostic tests as directed by provider 8. Draw, prepare and properly label designated lab work and/or specimens as directed by provider 9. Administer immunization, injections, or oral medications as ordered by provider 10. Assist in scheduling follow-up appointments 11. Answer patient calls in timely fashion a) Monitor voicemail communications from patients b) Communicate patient questions or concerns to provider c) Follow-up communications to the patient as requested by provider 12. Verify completeness of medical record by reviewing previously ordered studies or documentation, ensures that documents are placed in the appropriate location within the record if using paper records 13. Communicates clinical findings and information obtained from the patient to the provider 14. Assist with provider correspondence and communications as directed for clinical care 15. Provide support in performing QA measures or controls for suites 16. Recognizes and communicates potential patient safety issues 17. Initiates and completes appropriate administrative and quality documentation including security and occurrence reports 18. Supports appropriate ordering of medical supplies demonstrating basic understanding of cost containment 19. As necessary, may function as a scribe: a) Accompany the physician during the patient encounter. b) Transcribe the physician dictated patient history, including history of present illness, review of systems, past medical, surgical, family and social histories, medication and allergies. c) Transcribe the physical examination findings and procedures as performed by the physician. d) Transcribe the results of laboratory and radiographic studies as directed by the physician. e) Transcribe patient education and explanations of risks and benefits as performed by the physician. f) Pend orders for referrals, tests, medications and procedures as directed by the physician. g) Prepare and edit scribed document for physician review and signature.
Qualification Requirements/Preferences: Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities 1. Graduation from accredited California Medical Assistant school; have national certification as Medical Assistant ; or documented equivalent military experience or training 2. 2 - 5 years of years of experience in outpatient medical setting preferred 3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Must have or obtain AHA Healthcare Provider certification after employment. 4. Phlebotomy certified 5. Intermediate computer skills 6. Proven customer service skills 7. Understands and is able to support patient care flow 8. Ability to prepare patient for office visit/procedures 9. Obtain vital signs and accurately record data 10. Obtain and record current medications that patient is using 11. Perform basic testing, specimen collection and prepare lab work/specimens for pick up 12. Understands the 7 rights of medication administration 13. Understanding of principles of cleaning, sterilization or autoclaving 14. Ability to assist 2 or more providers in clinical care 15. Recognizes potential patient safety issues 16. Ability to problem solve and prioritize work assignments 17. Basic understanding of insurance concepts 18. Ability to schedule patient appointments for phlebotomy, testing or other procedures 19. Basic knowledge and skills necessary to transcribe patient care as directed by a physician in a legible, clear manner including: a. Proficiency in typing, spelling, punctuation and grammar of medical terminology. b. Understand medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to the extent required to accurately transcribe physician encounters.
