Position Description: The Department of Mathematics at the University of the Pacific invites applications for a full-time non tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Practice in Actuarial Science and the Director of the Actuarial Science Program (ASP) beginning Fall 2018. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for excellent teaching in the actuarial science curriculum leading up to being credentialed at the associateship level. Desired qualifications include experience as an actuarial analyst, a documented record of instruction and student mentoring, and demonstrated success working with diverse student and/or faculty populations. Responsibilities include
teaching five semester courses per academic year
teaching or organizing 1 unit exam preparation courses
curriculum development for actuarial science courses
advising and mentoring actuarial science majors, preparing students for exams, organizing student projects
engaging in professional outreach, enhancing the Pacific network in the actuarial profession
assisting students seeking internships
professional development for our growing actuarial science program
representing the program within the University of the Pacific and externally
other activities designed to develop the skills of actuarial studies students

Basic Qualifications: Actuarial credentials at the associateship or fellowship level with either the SOA or CAS or a society mutually recognized by the SOA or CAS.
A degree (M.S. preferred) in statistics, actuarial science, mathematics, or a closely related field.
