The Regional Vice President of Physician Services (RVPPS) works in a “dyadic model” of leadership with the Regional Chief Medical Officer (RCMO) to provide direction to the region’s outpatient services. Under this model, the RCMO and RVPPS are jointly responsible for driving the culture of Adventist Health (mission, vision and values), internal and external organizational relationships, overall performance and regional outpatient strategy. The RVPPS has distinct accountability for the performance of the region, which includes all the clinic locations within the region. This position has oversight of financial and operational functions for all ambulatory services. Works closely with the RCMO and system leadership to develop, implement AHPS best practices and/or enhance clinical and operational systems. The Regional Vice President supports the development and implementation of the regional and corporate strategic plans.
In partnership, the RVPPS and RCMO are responsible for:
Ensuring Adventist Health’s culture (mission, vision and values) permeates and guides all aspects of outpatient services.
Building internal organizational relationships with key individuals (employed physicians, referring physicians, advance practice providers, executives and clinic employees) for the expressed purpose of driving organizational strategy and related goals.
Developing a regional strategy and related goals that is in alignment with and drives system strategy. In addition, supports the effective and efficient delivery of quality care and financial sustainability.
The overall performance of the region’s outpatient services. This includes having the appropriate methods, mechanisms and systems for monitoring and evaluating business performance.
Ensuring the appropriate policies, procedures and systems are in place to support the regions provider retention efforts.
Championing AH engagement efforts throughout the assigned region to include physicians, patients and employees.
The RVPPS has distinct accountability for working with and leading the Market Operations Directors, to accomplish the following:
Ensuring sites operate in accordance with regulatory requirements and AHPS policies and procedures. Ensures best practices are implemented and maintained throughout the assigned region. Communicates operational opportunities and best practices to the COO.
Leading by example and assuring all employees anticipate customer needs and implement new and innovative ways to meet their needs. Promotes a compassionate and supportive environment.
Developing new business strategies to enhance market share and improve overall performance.
Working with AHPS leadership to help improve access, reduce costs, enhance revenues, achieve effective utilization and quality goals and objectives, analyze and utilize information to develop and support management decisions.
Driving Studer principles including LEM development and implementation and rounding with purpose.
Ensuring successful implementation and adoption of systems (EHR, CPM, etc.)
Partnering with local and regional hospital leadership to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.
Meeting and exceeding AHPS scorecard objectives (clinical, operational, and financial). Leverages AHPS playbook to drive operational success.
Representing AHPS and the communities it serves by promoting good public relations and cultivating cooperative relationships within the healthcare community.
Providing the appropriate budget management, and reports variances for all controllable budget line items to the COO.
Developing and submitting a fiscal year and capital equipment budget forecast annually to the COO. Proactively communicates and reviews capital needs with the COO prior to annual budget submission.
In conjunction with AHPS market and regional medical leadership, is responsible for provider retention efforts including ensuring appropriate mentoring and on-boarding of new providers.
Reviewing and approving purchased services contracts ensuring quality of services and competitive pricing.
Addressing specialty-specific work relative value unit (wRVU) productivity expectations and performance oversight.
In conjunction with regional and system leadership, participate in regional strategic planning and plan implementation.
Excellent at team building and motivating people. Able to identify the right people to execute strategic opportunities. Motivates and mentors operations directors and all levels of clinic leadership to perform and achieve goals. Skilled at accomplishing goals through others. Comfortable allowing the team to take credit for business accomplishments.
In consultation with the RCMO and HR, oversees the hiring and disciplinary process for clinic leaders and employees. When necessary, defines appropriate disciplinary action and administrates actions within AHPS policies and procedures.
Evaluates performance, identifies opportunities for performance improvement, and defines plans for performance goal achievement as outlined within AHPS performance evaluation policies.
Ensures the AHPS Governance structure is in place and functioning optimally. This includes oversight to Market Operations Directors who help lead the Market Operations Committee meetings. Ensures that other meetings (i.e. weekly or monthly staff meetings, Practice Operations Councils, etc.) are conducted in accordance with standards.
Supports, promotes and exemplifies Adventist Heath’s mission and values.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university or related experience. Master Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.
Experience: Eight to ten years of leadership experience in an outpatient clinic setting required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: Ability to provide vision and leadership. Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and employees in a team-oriented environment. Knowledge of human resources and finance/accounting activities, policies, and procedures. Within a structured time frame, has the ability to effectively and quickly respond to leadership demands in a pro-active manner. Knowledge and ability to make decisions independently with discretion and thoughtfulness.
