Serve as the Designated School Official and provides regulation interpretation in accordance with federal regulations that govern the F-1 visa, and university policy; including issues immigration documents (I-20) as needed for international students abroad to apply for student visas or students transferring to the university. Ensure compliance with guidelines and the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
Advise international students on immigration regulations that govern the F-1 student visa; including personal, financial and academic issues; including offering support to the student's valid immigration status while in the U.S.
Assist with maintenance of international student records, databases, and admissions related processing and other advising related administrative tasks, such as preparing memos, researching and preparing reports, estimated expenses, federal documents, and applications. Assist with the admissions process and admission events; including disseminating information to incoming students regarding their matriculation into the University and its programs.
Report to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), monitored by the Department of Homeland Security (overseers of SEVIS) on international student activities; registration, U.S. departures; failure to register; changes of immigration status; work authorizations and other relevant events pertinent to international student's stay in the U.S.
Send informational packets such as required information for enrollment, welcome letters, orientation schedules, and housing information. Monitor and advise on mandatory student health insurance policy; and maintains the student health insurance report, including organizing and maintaining student health insurance database.
Assist with the planning and coordination events for student and student groups, including all programming activities such as cultural activities, new student check-in and orientations, seminars, special topic workshops, and joint programming with other campus or community entities
Assist faculty with study abroad student travel and ensure compliance with the institution's procedures related to student travel abroad
Identify program goals; develop strategies to meet the goals, coordinate efforts with appropriate offices within the university; and assist with special projects as requested. In addition to coordinating departmental reports.
Requires meeting with international students and their families; continuous communication with current and prospect international students via phone, email and skype; advise on the immigration process of transfer students and students abroad.
Prepare and create presentations, reports, brochures, handouts relevant to international students, including undocumented students. Responsible for the department social media; produces digital slides and printed publications and maintains the department website.
Assist the international admission specialist when necessary and/or provide admission information to prospective students; will conduct strategic armchair recruitment efforts as necessary.
Oversee student workers as needed on a project-related basis.
Performs other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to participating in professional development and training.
Necessary Qualifications: Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree.
Necessary Qualifications: 3 years advising international students on F-1 visa and experience with SEVIS.
Experience with international admission advising and with program development. F-1 visa background experience in higher education or immigration setting.
4 years F-1 visa advising in higher education.
Necessary Working knowledge of Banner; word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of social media management and usage for professional purposes. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to effectively communicate with international people. Ability to comprehend and communicate technical information effectively and diplomatically. Strong customer service background. Some travel required.
Applicant must be a U.S. citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident as required by the Department of Homeland Security regulations.
This is a security sensitive position. The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations. This individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with A&M System policy and is further required to complete FERPA and HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable time-frame after the individual's employment and on an as-needed basis thereafter.
