Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an International Faculty/Scholar Services Advisor for The Center for Global Services (CGS). This position reports to the Associate Director for Faculty and Scholar Services, the International Faculty and Scholar Adviser shares responsibility for administering Rutgers University's J-1 Exchange Visitor Program, and assists in the preparation and filing of H-1B visa petitions.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Confers with and advises academic and research units on visa sponsorship regulations, policies and procedures and supports the Associate Director for Faculty and Scholar Services in other responsibilities related to the legal employment of foreign nationals at Rutgers.
Coordinates administrative processing and record-keeping related to J-1 faculty, researchers and special visiting research students who participate in Rutgers' Exchange Visitor program.
Advises individual J-1 faculty and scholars on matters pertaining to their legal status and provides assistance and guidance with matters pertaining to their adjustment in the United States.
Assists in the preparation and filing of H-1B visa petitions.
Develops and runs cultural programming activities for international faculty and scholars.
Assists with the development and administration of the Center's program.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the field.
A minimum of two years' professional experience is needed to perform successfully in the job, preferably in a similar or related position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The experience must have included applying a body of specialized knowledge specific to the job in which experience was gained, exercising critical thinking skills to solve problems, experience with cultural programming and skills in customer or client service work.
To comply with federal law in performing necessary duties of the job, the incumbent must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident for certification as an "Alternate Responsible Officer" (U.S. Department of State).
Candidate must respect and exercise full confidentiality as appropriate.
The position requires experience in a job in which a body of specialized knowledge is applied because effective performance in this position entails the application of complex federal regulations across a diverse range of situations.
Experience with and/or a working knowledge of federal J-1 and H-1B regulations, and with SEVIS;
Experience working with Sunapsis or other batch SEVIS program;
Master's degree or some graduate study;
Degree in social sciences, foreign languages or other field directly related to working with international scholars;
Experience living and/or working abroad;
Knowledge of one or more foreign languages;
Employment experience in a college or university environment.
