Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree in a science or health related field, or completion of two years of hospital pharmacy technician experience, or completion of a military/other formal pharmacy technician program provided the program encompasses a minimum of two years, and National Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
Job Standard / Operational Needs: Fills unit dose carts from Pharmacy profiles or medication fill lists. May fill up to 300 unit dose orders a day. Must demonstrate speed without compromising accuracy. Fills medication orders and substitutes generic or alternate brand of drug based on approved practices. Working knowledge of more than 2000 drug entities including brand, generic and chemical names is required in order to do this. Maintain patient profiles and compile clinical information for research studies. Aseptically prepares sterile solutions for parenteral administration. Working knowledge of sterile techniques and manual dexterity to apply this knowledge. Works on multidisciplinary performance improvement related to medications. Projects include reviewing methods to insure appropriate handling of controlled substances on nursing units, reduction of missing doses on nursing units, elimination of expired drugs in nursing units, development of training competencies, development of Pyxis competencies for nursing staff. Participates in Chemotherapy program. Coordinates and monitors the work activity of Pharmacy Aides in routine pharmacy distribution activities to insure that department procedures are followed. Trains new Pharmacy Aides on Pharmacy Core work procedures. Coordinates the handling of investigational drugs. Prepares, stores and maintains inventory. Serves as satellite pharmacy assistant . Prepares and processes drug orders; assists Clinical Pharmacists in monitoring patients. Processes Controlled Substances and troubleshoots Pyxis related problems. Position is primarily evenings and overnights but could be any shift depending on operational need.
