Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Technical Manager-Radiology.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for overseeing the lead technologists, regulates patient flow within and out of the department
Performs other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates initiative by performing duties in an independent manner, offering suggestions for positive changes, and readily assuming responsibility according to the needs of the department. Utilizes various reports from the HIS and RIS in follow-up and status of work completed, knows how to run these reports, and uses them as precision tools for the radiology department. Example: Scheduled Exam Report, Complete-not-dictated, etc. Oversees the evaluation of products, supplies, space and imaging equipment. Exhibits leadership behaviors consistent with the Medical Center and the Radiology Department mission statement, philosophy and departmental policies.
Establishes and maintains lines of communication with other medical center departments in order to ensure safe and effective patient care. Reviews documentation completed by staff to ensure its accuracy, thoroughness, and timely completion. Maintains these records and transfers information from weekly sign-in sheets to time sheets. Records overtime worked by staff according to established medical center policies. Makes recommendations to technical coordinator concerning vacations and time off for staff. Makes good judgments based on gathering and analyzing, factual and objective data; is able to interpret policies/procedures in order to make a sound independent decision, and make them in a timely manner. Demonstrates good managerial skills by conducting each aspect of supervision in a fair, firm, consistent, and objective manner. Demonstrates alertness and adaptability to changing patient and employee conditions; responds appropriately.
Oversees preparation of equipment and supplies for patient exams to ensure adherence to daily schedule and departmental guidelines. Ensures completion of daily work schedules. Directs emergency STAT examinations to the most available technician. Ensures completion of examinations in a reasonable amount of time. Receives reports on equipment malfunctions, damages and losses; executes appropriate action to rectify problems based on the type of problem. Communicates and interacts effectively with the in-house and manufacturer field service personnel in order to resolve problems. Solves minor equipment malfunctions. Monitors the inventory record-keeping of supplies to ensure it is completed accurately and thoroughly. Advises technical coordinator of the need for replenishing supplies (how much, what type of supply, and how soon).
Regulate patient flow into and out of the department and functions as a liaison between Radiology and other departments to ensure continuity of services. Assigns patient exams to the staff based on the type of procedure required, available equipment, and the knowledge/skills of the employee. Defines the expected outcome and assignment clearly to the employee, assures the assignment is understood and that the desired outcome is reached. Provides guidance to the staff in the solution of difficult patient examinations utilizing skill and knowledge in the field. Inspects finished images for quality and information; initiates corrective action, if necessary.
Discusses and makes recommendations to supervisor regarding disciplinary action, when necessary, in accordance with personnel policies and procedures and the collective bargaining agreement. Encourages staff to pursue continuing education and seek professional growth. Recognizes and identifies staff training needs, develops and schedules in-service training programs to meet those needs. Researches and distributes educational material/literature to the staff as it becomes available. Contacts manufacturer representatives to present lectures and provide literature on current equipment, supplies, and procedures. Keeps abreast of changes in Federal and State regulations and current practices in the field. Ensures that policies and procedures are up-to-date, well organized, and easily accessible to the staff.
Maintains a high level of technical skills to regularly and proficiently organize, train and counsel technical staff, with regard to job performance, professional growth and knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Interviews prospective employees and makes recommendations regarding hiring to the technical coordinator. Plans the training and development of newly hired technical staff and students in advance and prepares instruction materials and sessions for residents regarding technical aspects of ultrasound. Maintains detailed records of performance and training status of probationary employees. Arranges training of employees to new procedures and changes in existing procedures. Explains to the employee clearly what his/her responsibilities are and the standards of performance, which will be used to evaluate them. Offers guidance for improving performance, brings to the employees attention areas that need improvement as soon as they are recognized with a plan and a time frame for correction. Recognizes the need to counsel subordinates and performs counseling in a timely fashion. Approaches the performance review process constructively and conducts it in accordance with personnel and departmental guidelines and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Graduate of an A.M.A. approved school of Radiologic Technology, Ultrasound or Nuclear Medicine as appropriate. New York State License (Radiologic Technology or Ultrasound). Five years experience in the field, with one year in a leadership role. Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
