The Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases (IID) was formed in 1997 when the Departments of Cancer Biology, Molecular and Cellular Toxicology and Tropical Public Health were merged. The department focuses on the biological, immunological, epidemiological and ecological aspects of viral, bacterial and protozoan diseases of animals and humans, including the vectors that transmit infectious agents. Research in the department's 12 laboratories is primarily focused on diseases of developing countries.
The Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases (IID) is seeking an experienced individual to provide financial and grant management leadership to IID faculty members with high-volume, diverse and complicated sponsored award portfolios. This position provides both pre-award and post-award grant management support.
Pre-award responsibilities include:
- Grant preparation - Budget development - Application form submissions and interaction with the Office of Research Administration, the Office of Financial Services, the Office of Sponsored Programs and other internal or external offices for timely and accurate submission -Other duties as assigned
Post-award duties include:
- Monthly budget reconciliations and updates - Journal entries and cost transfers - Final financial reporting to sponsoring agencies and internal sponsored programs office - Coordination of timely effort reporting - Submission of timely payroll changes for faculty and staff - Reviewing and approving purchase orders and employee expenses - Monitoring appropriate allocation to sponsored awards - Providing independent post award management including evaluation of budget-to-actual performance, performing monthly financial analysis and multi year projections to PIs and to the department management -Other duties as assigned

- 5+ years of experience, with 3+ years of those years in pre- and post-award management experience (both federal and non-federal), required; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred. - Proficiency with Excel. - Experience with Harvard systems a plus.
Pre-award and/or post-award experience in a research environment; knowledge of the government grant electronic proposal submission; familiarity with complex NIH and other sponsored grant applications; grant management and budgeting, as well as strong financial skills (budgeting, accounting, A/P, A/R, reporting); knowledge of or willingness to learn other areas of skills; strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, written/oral communication skills; flexibility, e.g.: ability to work with shifting priorities and deadline pressure; ability to work independently and as a team member; proficiency with various computer systems and software programs and trouble shooting skills, ability to learn other software as needed. Great sense of humor and team spirit, and willingness to lend a hand when additional assistance is needed.
