The Director of Safety will work directly with the Regional Safety Specialists and field operations to provide a safe working environment ensuring that policies, procedures and laws are understood and enforced. This position is a player/coach role and is directly involved in safety oversight for certain facilities as well as supervising a team of specialists that support our branch operations. The Director of Safety is responsible for leading, planning, developing, and coordinating the safety objectives, materials, and environments to achieve injury reduction and safety effectiveness for the entire organization as well as the group of five corporate level safety staff employees. In addition, they will conduct safety audits by inspecting and touring the branches to evaluate safety programs, safe working conditions, and environmental conditions. They will investigate accidents and injuries to determine unsafe conditions and recommend corrective action.
Developing and implementing safety efforts that effectively communicate and support H&E Equipment Services Safety policies in a consistent manner with a focus on accident prevention and loss control
Partners with senior leadership in the development and establishment of safety strategies to ensure alignment with key business objectives and overall organization strategies.
Assures the timely and accurate completion of required reports relating to safety and compliance.
Reviews incidents and audit findings to determine and resolve root cause
Participates in safety meetings and activities to promote and re-enforce the company’s philosophy towards safety and company policy and procedures
Monitors the general work environment and works with Branch Operations to resolve unsafe/noncompliant situations and practices
Works with Risk Management as it relates to Workers' Compensation including reduction programs, accident investigation, and "return to work" efforts
Represents the company in its relationships with loss control representatives, emergency services, related government agencies, health and safety councils and similar individuals and groups
Works with Branch Operations to assure the suitability, availability, and readiness of safety equipment, supplies and systems, including facility security
Advises management on design and application requirements to assure that new and/or renovated equipment and facilities enhance the safe, healthy work environment
Leads Regional Safety Staff and related safety resources through the selection, training, and development of these employees to ensure departmental effectiveness and efficiency
Contributes to the overall continuous improvement of all H&E Equipment Services, Inc. operations and accepts additional related responsibilities as they emerge
Ability to travel approximately 30%

5+ years of safety experience and 10+ years of management experience
Professional Certification and undergraduate degree is preferred
Must demonstrate ability to effectively lead a staff of direct reports, supporting a multi-state workforce
Ability to lead and facilitate safety meetings
Ability to understand and manage Workers' Compensation claims
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent employee relations skills
Strong knowledge of safety practices and procedures
Ability to understand and facilitate OSHA/MSHA compliance and record-keeping requirements.
Proficient in using software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
