Associate Chief Nurse Executive, Division of Hospital and Specialty Medicine- Nurse IV
A little about us: We are a three-time Magnet designated VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS), serving more than 95,000 unique Veterans through 950,000 outpatient visits in Oregon and Southwest Washington. VAPORHCS consists of the main tertiary care medical center overlooking the city of Portland, the Vancouver Campus in Vancouver, Wash., and ten outpatient clinics across Central and Northwest Oregon. We are a regional referral health care system providing a full continuum of inpatient, outpatient, long-term, and emergent care. We are funded as a VA Nursing Academic Partnership (VANAP) with the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), providing dedicated clinical areas for our VA-OHSU Scholars. We also have two dedicated education units with the University of Portland School of Nursing.
At VA Portland Health Care System, nursing has been decentralized for more than twenty years. ACNEs not directly reporting to the Deputy Director, Patient Care Services (CNE) are members of Nursing Professional Council which meets monthly, and of the ACNE work group that meets with the CNE to discuss and establish general policies for the nursing discipline across the health system. Our shared governance model is well-embedded, having also been in place for more than twenty years. All health system ACNEs participate fully in all shared governance functions.
The Associate Chief Nurse Executive(ACNE) for the Division of Hospital and Specialty Medicine(DHSM) reports directly to the Chief of staff, along with the Chief of Medicine Clinical Director and the Administrative Director. This triad leadership team has full accountability and responsibility for the Hospital and Specialty Medicine Division. The Division consists of Hospitalists, Procedural and Diagnostic Laboratories, Respiratory Therapy, and a Dialysis Unit. Specialties include rheumatology, cardiology, hematology, oncology, pulmonary and sleep medicine, GI, gerontology, nephrology, and hepatology. The Division includes active education and research communities.

Master’s degree in nursing or related field with BSN; If Master’s degree is in a related field, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is required.
Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive management experience.
Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership, maintain a variety of internal and external contacts and work cooperatively with physicians, administrators, managers and technical staff.
Program development knowledge and experience.
Membership in professional organization.
Analytical skills necessary to develop and administer budgets, policies and procedures, to plan and evaluate patient care programs and services, and to evaluate a wide variety of complex financial and statistical data.
Experience in LEAN management and systems redesign is a plus.
