Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for provision, coordination, and assurance of comprehensive medical care using sound medical knowledge and pertinent standards of care, performance of therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures on the designated inpatient or outpatient population, assume delegatory responsibilities assigned by supervising physician privileged as Medical Staff of NYU Medical Center
Monitors and trends the cost effectiveness of the position, particularly as it relates tothe efficiency and performance indicators established for the service.
Works collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines in the development andimplementation of clinical studies within the area of expertise.
Maintains PA board certification
Considers needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care.
Acts as a professional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating expertise and related experience into all aspects of patient care.
Educates patient and family to facilitate and promote healthy adjustment to new or changed health patterns.
Demonstratesknowledge of theorganizations CoreValues andincorporates them intothe performance ofresponsibilities.
Practices within the scope of practice of supervising physician.
Performs delegated clinical duties effectively and efficiently.
Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges.
Works collaborativelywith the attendingphysician to maintaintimely and appropriatecommunication withfamily members, housestaff, other disciplinesand ancillary services.
Works collaborativelywith theinterdisciplinary teamincluding the attendingphysician to developand implement thetherapeutic plan ofcare for a group ofpatients and ensurecommunication withfamily members.
Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes individual patient/family preference and enhances quality, access, and cost-effective outcomes
Participates indesignated activitiesrelated to professionalphysician assistantpractice standards.
Functions as arespectful member ofthe health care team.
Documents and communicates relevant patient information comprehensively and in a timely manner.
Coordinates implementation of clinical research studies or clinical trials, including patient screening, enrollment and data collection.
Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
Values and incorporates them into the performance of responsibilities.
Uses evidence-based health care literature to advise and support appropriate practicechanges within the designated service.
Evaluates treatmentand health care plansfor effectiveness andmodifies per clinicalstandards and practiceprotocols.
Participates in thedevelopment andrevision ofinterdisciplinary andhospital standards,patient and familyeducation materials asrelevant to area ofpractice and expertise.
Promotes own professional growth and development in clinical role.
Participates in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per establishedpractice protocols for purposes of quality and performance improvement
Orders customarylaboratory, radiologicaland diagnostic studiesper practice protocols,differentiates betweennormal/abnormalfindings and followsprotocols for abnormalfindings, which mayinclude referral toconsulting physiciansper customary patternof the attending MD oras delegated bysupervising physician
Facilitates the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g. home care, other facilities, appointments with MDs etc.
Facilitates patients throughput and efficient process during patients admission and discharge.
Provides consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patients care in the hospital setting.
Prescribes medicalequipment, devices,physical andoccupational therapy,and home healthservices per practiceprotocol.
Prescribes in-patientand dischargemedications accordingto New York State law,including controlledsubstances with DEAauthorization
Formulates the plan ofcare, along with theattending physician,patient and family,based on expectedgoals of care andlength of stay.
Plans and organizes care to meet individual patient needs and to ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols, pathways, and other means.
Performs completehealth history, physicalexamination andpsychosocialassessment of patientswithin the designatedpractice or clinical unit.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Licensure: Current New York State Physician Assistant License. Education: Physician Assistant Bachelor's Degree (BA-PA). Certifications: NCCPA Board Certification ACLS, PALS, NRP Provider (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), NALS per delineation of privileges.Competence: At least 2 years of clinical rotation in various medical, surgical and other specialty areas. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving and excellent critical thinking skills. Previously demonstrated ability to facilitate group processes and work cohesively and collaboratively as member of the interdisciplinary team. .
Required Licenses: Physician Assistant Lic-NYS
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as a physician assistant or physician assistant fellowship experience is preferred. Membership in professional specialty organizations desirable.
