The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) invites applications for full-time, 12-month post-doctoral positions. We seek outstanding nurse scientist trainees who have recently received a PhD degree with research interests that closely align with one of the School's three organized research centers:

The School fosters the growth and development of its organized research centers via programmatic support, infrastructure for conducting research including basic science and clinical laboratory facilities, and pilot funding opportunities. Faculty within the organized research centers support members by providing mentorship to junior faculty, post-doctoral fellows and doctoral students, provide opportunities for collaborative research projects, and mock review of grant applications.
The UMSON is part of the University of Maryland graduate professional campus that also includes the schools of medicine, dentistry, social work, pharmacy and law, and is one of the fastest growing biomedical research centers in the nation. The unique composition of the campus enables health professionals to address clinical care, public policy and social issues through inter-professional research, scholarship, teaching and community action. Its location in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C.-Annapolis triangle maximizes opportunities for collaboration with government agencies, health care institutions and life sciences industries.
Research interests must be aligned with a funded PI in one of the above organized research centers who will commit to funding the first year of the applicant's post-doctoral fellowship.
Substantively contributes to the research and scholarship efforts of the school through the growth of a program of extramurally-funded research: successful applicants will be required to submit an F32 individual NRSA post-doctoral fellowship application to the appropriate NIH IC within one year of employment. If successful obtaining F32 funding and if the applicant also succeeds in obtaining a funded K99-R00 grant, the post-doctoral fellow will be converted to a full-time assistant professor position (non-tenure track) upon award of the K99 grant.

Actively participates in organized research center activities.
The successful candidate should have or will receive a doctoral degree in nursing or related field within the past six months and show substantive evidence of building a program of research, which includes a beginning track record of extramural support for research training, publication record that supports the proposed area of research, and regional/national presentations.
