The Senior Business Analyst ('Analyst') is a member of the Interfaces and Data Integration (IDI) team and is responsible for the business analysis of integration projects. Specifically, the Analyst will document integration requirements during planning, specify the business requirements across interfaced applications, develop future state workflows, and support the validation process during integration projects. This position will also collaborate with other IDI team members on internal enhancements and process improvement initiatives.
The Analyst works under the general guidance of the Interfaces and Data Integration Manager. This position must build and maintain strong relationships across IT Services and the IDI customer community.
The Analyst must manage a large number of activities and multiple projects concurrently, and rely upon excellent organization, and interpersonal skills to ensure that initiatives are completed in a quality manner on time and within budget.
The incumbent must have the interpersonal skills to develop relationships with customers and other IDI team members to facilitate complex conversations. Although this position will be a facilitator, there is no expectation that this role will be the sole point of contact for IDI customers.
Technology is a rapidly changing space that requires a strong commitment to maintaining current skills. In addition to this personal learning commitment, the Analyst role has responsibility for helping the team stay current via presentations and knowledge sharing in team meetings, lunch and learns, etc.
The successful completion of the Analyst's duties is critical to the ongoing business operations of many departments across UW Medicine. The Analyst supports solutions and systems used by both internal and external customers of UW Medicine and as such impacts patient safety and revenue.
IDI Team Operational and Process Improvement Initiatives (25%)
Work with peers to define and document interface development standards as part of the Interface Process Group (IPG).
Prepare presentations for organizational communication.
Work with the IDI team on internal projects
Serve as project manager for internal projects. Utilize project management methodology to plan, execute, and monitor these projects.
Assist in the development of documentation for internal projects.
Develop customer facing documentation for IDI.
Collect and assemble organizational artifacts related to generic interface analysis: workflows, current and future state models, messaging workflows, data models, and test scripts.
Develop business analysis tools, like checklists and swim lane diagrams to clearly depict complex multi system interactions.
Develop or refine processes and/or workflows as needed for the team.
Project Initiation and Planning (20%)
Represent IDI at Project Intake meetings to identify projects requiring IDI involvement.
Understand the integration related efforts on projects, working with technical staff to understand and document technical requirements for projects.
Participate in initial requirements meetings to obtain details necessary for planning.
Serve as the liaison between the PM and the integration team for technical questions and to assure the technical solutions are not defined at this stage.
Assist in the development of labor and time estimates (project scoping and estimation).
Promote and implement IDI approved architectures and work with Enterprise Integration Architect to close gaps and evolve architecture as needed.
Project Analysis and Design (20%)
Elicit and document detailed business requirements for the integration project in collaboration with stakeholders, users and project team.
Act as the liaison between multiple systems to understand the cross-system business requirements.
Serve as the central focus for questions related requirements that other analysts may have.
Facilitate conversations related to business and technical requirements.
Work with SMEs and end users to define the future state workflow on specific projects.
Unify the multiple workflows provided by individual BAs or Clinical Analysts to provide the comprehensive business requirements and data flow picture. This will set the stage for messaging workflows.
Document business requirements for Service Level Agreement development.
Work with the technical staff to be sure that interface, data integration, and interoperability needs are documented. This may include functional requirements and depictions of data transformation and movement.
Implement the UW Validation Framework methodology, including writing the User and Functional Requirements Specification (URS/FRS) and collecting the various technical documents which comprise the Application Design Specification (ADS) . Other project team members are responsible for the technical documentation to be collected.
Work with the Quality Assurance team to:
Create the validation plan;
Input requirements into ALM;
Create validation summary report;
Oversee acceptance testing and create validation summary report.
Contribute to and review test plans and scripts to assure that all workflows demonstrate application functionality.
Work with the PM, other Analysts, Developers, and stakeholders during the course of a project to assure requirements are implemented.
Customer Relationship Management (10%)
Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships. Building relationships across the organization will enable the integration analyst to call upon the correct people when needing to discuss and resolve complex multi-system issues.
Communicate clearly the progress of active initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
Represent the team as a committed partner in all customer interactions.
Personal Development Activities (5%)
Actively pursue personal learning commitment by researching trends and technologies that may contribute solution development and/or team efficiency.
Help the team stay current with this knowledge via presentations and knowledge sharing in team meetings, design reviews, lunch and learns, etc.
What you'll bring to the table: (minimum requirements)
Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-oriented profession, a technology field, a business-related field, or other disciplines that demonstrate analytical or communication abilities or equivalent combination of education/experience.
6+ years experience must include the following:
3+ years professional IT experience in business analysis and requirements gathering for IT applications, systems, or services.
3+ years in a formal project or team leadership position related to support of custom or vendor software. This may be as a business analyst, project manager, program manager, or product manager.
3+ years demonstrated customer service experience effectively working with multiple, diverse stakeholders in a complex environment.
1+ years professional IT experience in the area of planning, designing, building, validating, and implementing IT projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of system development life cycle utilizing latest technologies throughout the system development phases such as using Application Life Cycle Management software to validate test cases.
Knowledge of integration protocols including, but not limited to, HL7, XML, and EDI.

6+ years of experience in an application service role in complex multi-disciplinary environments such as bedside, operating room, outpatient, and inpatient environments.
2+ years of the professional IT experience in the healthcare industry.
Experience working with marketing or medical professionals as stakeholders.
Familiarity with healthcare interfaces, integration, and interoperability tools and methods.
