As an Intellectual Property Counsel, for John Deere, you will provide research, legal counsel, recommendations, and alternatives for complex intellectual property legal questions and issues. In addition, you will: •Draft, negotiate, and counsel on contracts with intellectual property provisions •Draft, negotiate, counsel on, and file legal documents, including patent applications, responses to USPTO office actions, opinions, contracts, memos, and registrations •Assist senior attorneys in analyzing issues to identify legal problems, research applicable laws and practices, and formulate solutions and counsel •Review legal documents for compliance with applicable laws •Stay current on emerging trends in the law through continuing legal education, reading, professional conferences, and participation in professional associations

What Skills You Need
•Knowledge and experience in intellectual property law, in particular patent law •Knowledge and experience in legal risk and conflict management •Understands legal issues affecting area of responsibility, able to identify issues associated with assigned tasks, and able to spot ethical issues in practice •Ability to perform legal research •Skill in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution •Effective writing skills, including grammatical usage, persuasion and style •At least 1 year of experience in a law firm, corporate legal, or government legal environment

Education (or equivalent work experience)
Ideally you will have: •Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent degree •USPTO registration as a patent attorney •Bachelor of Science, or equivalent degree, in engineering, preferably in the electrical or mechanical arts or experience drafting patent applications in these areas
