The Associate Director-Center for Academic Excellence assists the Assistant Provost for Student Success & Academic Support/Director-Center for Academic Excellence in providing overall leadership and management of CAE. Supervises and provides direction for the Center for Academic Excellence in the absence of and support of the Director. Manages a variety of academic support activities with primary emphasis to academic advising. This position is also responsible for assessment reporting and training and professional development. The nature of these responsibilities requires the Associate Director to develop and maintain positive working relationships with faculty and staff across the college; to foster collaboration with effective results in support of student learning, achievement and student success. The Associate Director for the Center for Academic Excellence exercises judgment in the facilitation and administration of student support, academic support and student engagement activities. Knowledge and proficiency in the operation and use of personal computers utilizing various software applications (i.e., work processing, spreadsheet and database management software) including the Internet, as well as social media.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is a unit providing academic support services to help students excel academically and cultivate life skills critical to timely graduation and global citizenship. To accomplish its mission, CAE offers a wide-range of services and programs that promote student success, such as centralized academic advising, supplemental instruction, peer mentoring, tutoring, etc. The CAE collaborates with various academic units to reinforce academic expectations and address factors that affect student success, retention and graduation.

Master degree in Adult Education, Education, or related field; Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with individuals from various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds; Ability to work independently and multi-task; Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential information with discretion and according to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines; Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Must possess excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, and be able to work in a student-focused environment; three years of relevant experience. Demonstrated experience in program development, especially leadership development; experience working with diverse populations; problem solving and mediation skills between students, administration, and community required. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Three or more years experience in developing retention strategies, academic advising, recruiting of students in the university environment.
Terminal degree in Adult Education, Education or other relevant discipline required; Eight or more years of full-time work experience in higher education; Possess student development and learning theory foundation knowledge. Evaluation and assessment experience. Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with campus partners; governing committees/councils, executive boards, and chapters, as well as alumni volunteers/advisors; Demonstrated knowledge of academic policies, and some knowledge of legal issues in higher education and risk management/harm reduction practices. Experience in coordinating college level student life programs, academic advisement experience preferred as well as experience with the BANNER student information system. Supervision and interaction with students, strong written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of student development theories and models are required.
