Advertised Summary Job Description: The Department of Pathology & Cell Biology has a need for a Revenue Cycle Manager in its Central Billing Office. Reporting to the Director of Clinical Administration, the Revenue Cycle AR (Accounts Receivable) Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of the revenue cycle unit within the Department of Pathology & Cell Biology. The Revenue Cycle AR Manager will be involved in the day-to-day billing operations for the clinical practice. Responsible for revenue cycle operations including patient registration, insurance verification, referrals/authorizations and cash management. Management and supervision of staff including day-to-day delegation of tasks and duties among staff as needed to ensure smooth and efficient operations. In conjunction with the Director of Clinical Administration, the incumbent will assist with the evaluation of ongoing billing operations on a regular basis for efficient use of resources.
Promotes staff professionalism through personal example and ensures a customer service orientation is maintained in interactions with patients, physicians, department staff, and external organizations.
Provide oversight of department specific billing and coding education focused on the Department's documentation, coding, and billing processes. Maintain oversight and provide resolution for missing charges, TES edits, ETM requests, and other inquiries from the FPO and outsourced billing vendors, as these pertain to practice revenue. Oversight of Managed Care Credentialing and re-credentialing.
Perform all HR functions concerning management of the unit including but not limited to, quality assurance review of work performed, monitoring time and attendance, ensures staff adheres to departmental and institutional policy and procedures.
Works collaboratively with clinical areas to establish effective communications to further the efficiency of the revenue cycle process. Maintains a thorough working knowledge of all aspects of billing and policies updates for commercial, managed care and government payers. Assist in developing, maintaining and implementing standard operating procedures (SOP) associated with AR follow up, collection efforts and operations. Initiate and participate in scheduled payer meetings to escalate resolution of denial appeals. Monitors established key operating indicators (KOI), ensure that benchmarks are met. Deploy resources as required to address priorities and receivables inventory. Prepares appropriate reports for senior leadership to increase knowledge of relationship between charge behavior, billing flow, and reimbursement. Conforms to all applicable Institutional, HIPAA, Billing Compliance and safety policies and guidelines. Perform other duties as required.
General Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: 1. Minimum of 3 years' supervisory experience in a Healthcare facility or billing office environment. 2. Demonstrated understanding of revenue cycle and the impact of the front-end work and how it affects billing and collection efforts. 3. Billing system experience; knowledge of electronic verification systems; proficient in Microsoft Excel and an ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs. 4. Proficiency in health insurance eligibility as it pertains to Medicare and Medicaid regulations, insurance and managed care reimbursement concepts and overall operational impact. 5. Ability to work independently in a fast paced multi-task environment.
