The Communications Team provides day-to-day management of IEI's comprehensive communications program, and is integral in raising statewide awareness of the brand, increasing visibility through strategic engagement with stakeholders, fostering understanding of IEI's programs and initiatives, and executing complex campaigns across multiple communications channels.
The Communications Associate (CA) is a key member of IEI's Communications Team, reporting directly to the Communications Director. The CA is a dynamic, collaborative, intuitive and word-savvy communications professional whose training, knowledge, insights, and skills are current with the field of institutional/organizational communications in the digital age. The CA helps to execute a fully integrated communications program that aligns with goals set forth in IEI's Strategic Plan and with related objectives and metrics.
The CA's primary responsibilities will be to assist with developing comprehensive new media communications strategies, manage website content/updates, assist with email marketing campaigns, and manage IEI's social media platforms, to include content generation, design, routine audience engagement, SEO and analytics tracking.
Secondary responsibilities include utilizing traditional communications tools to inform and engage target audiences and identified stakeholders. The CA may assist in drafting and editing press releases, speeches, presentations, publications, reports, and other collateral material with minimal supervision and often under tight deadlines. The CA should have some knowledge of basic graphic design using Adobe CC (Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop). Videography and/or photography skills would be an added bonus.
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Superior knowledge of all standard social media platforms and related performance metrics.
Proficiency in website content management (using software such as WordPress), website optimization, and search engine optimization (SEO).
Familiarity relevant softwares such as Adobe CC (Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop), and email marketing/contact management software (Cvent, Bronto, MailChimp, etc.).
Superior written/verbal communication skills; copyediting skills; strong interviewing and research skills.
Standard knowledge of AP Style; ability to write successfully in many other styles across multiple platforms (print, web, social media, various collateral material, etc.).
Possess strong project management abilities; capacity to work independently and within a team environment, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others, both internally and externally.
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or other disciplines related to the area of assignment.
At least one year of professional experience working in the field of communications.
General photography, videography and/or video editing skills is a plus. Interest in public policy and/or civic engagement is beneficial. Communications experience and/or familiarity within the higher ed, government, public policy and/or non-profit sectors is strongly desired.
