SMC Infrastructure Solutions is looking for experienced Lead Cabling Technicians and Technicians for major installations and upgrades of Structured Cabling Systems/Outside Plant Data & Telecommunications Infrastructure for government and commercial projects throughout the National Capitol Region (Maryland, Virginia & DC).
As a Structured Cabling Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing cable infrastructure in a low voltage environment. The ideal candidate will be able to meet the physical demands of the work site as well as provide excellent customer service. Lead Technicians are responsible for performing planning and scheduling, ensuring compliance with specifications, acceptance testing and obtaining approvals for work performed. Lead Technicians perform work in the field as project leads and provide direction and supervision to technicians, helpers and subcontractors.
Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
Experience in installation, testing and documentation associated with network cabling - CAT5e, CAT6, Copper, Fiber Optic, Coax, Risers and Tie Cables.
Ability to interpret CAD design drawings and adhere to BICSI and EIA / TIA design criteria and installation standards.
Understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, voice, data and audio/video applications.
Ability to proactively identify and analyze problems, issues, requirements and/or needs; determine impact on the project and recommend solutions.
Previous Data/Telecommunications Infrastructure project experience. Crew Leaders must have technical training and minimum five years of experience.
Position requires climbing ladders, lifting materials, working in tunnels, manholes, cable enclosure areas, ceilings, and/or at heights. Includes regular use of hand tools and test equipment.
Position may require occasional project based out of state travel extending beyond two weeks.
Must have valid driver’s license, safe driving record and ability to obtain DOT physical card.
Demonstrate effective communication skills with customers, supervisors and coworkers.
Maintain a professional appearance, positive attitude, and exceptional work ethic.
Education, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of methods, techniques and documentation requirements for installing, testing, configuring, trouble shooting and repairing communication systems and associated cabling.
Lead Technicians must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the telecommunications field. Technicians must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be willing to learn
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, preferred but not required.
Solid overall telecom background and BICSI certifications desired.
Ability to adhere to demanding project deadlines and attention to detail.
