Cape Fear Valley Health System has retained Steve Weiner Search Group to conduct a nationwide search to recruit an outstanding Vice President for Cape Fear Valley Medical Group.
Cape Fear Valley Health System (CFVHS) is a fast growing private not-for-profit healthcare organization serving more than one million patients annually in eight (soon to be nine) counties. The system has eight hospitals with 7,200 employees, 850 physicians and operates 1,056 beds. Its flagship hospital, Cape Fear Medical Center, is a robust 600 bed tertiary care medical center specializing in cardiac care, cancer treatment and surgical services, as well as neuroscience, pediatrics, rehabilitation and orthopedics. CFVHS also offers a full service Family Birth Center, as well as a Level-III Neonatal Intensive Care unit. In addition to short term acute medical facilities, Cape Fear operates a long-term acute care (LTAC) and rehabilitation hospital and a behavioral healthcare center along with rural hospital facilities. Additionally, Cape Fear has the busiest Emergency Department in North Carolina and one of the top 20 ERs in the country in terms of patient volume. Recently, Cape Fear established an affiliation arrangement whereby it became the principal teaching site for Campbell University Medical School.
CFVHS’s physician group/network offers high quality, outstanding value and comprehensive care for the communities it serves. The physician group/network is comprised of 48 physician primary care and specialty clinics serving southeastern North Carolina. It consists of 178 providers, 500 employees and has net revenue of $33 million. Over the past year, the network has expanded rapidly, adding nine clinics, several more providers and growing in excess of 20 percent. Within the next nine months, there are plans to open two more clinics providing urgent care and imaging services. CFVHS is actively evaluating the need for physician clinics, striving to improve accessibility of care for patients and increasing its market share. The Vice President will provide leadership, oversight and guidance in ensuring the effective and efficient operations and growth of the medical group/physician network. He/she will be a passionate leader with a demonstrated record of success in clinic/physician practice and ambulatory operations. The successful candidate should possess well-developed skills in business development, sales and marketing. The Vice President should have a background in working with medical groups that have experienced growth. This individual will evaluate the medical groups’ current infrastructure and make recommendations for change. Using data and key metrics, he/she will track quality, patient satisfaction, productivity, billing and collections, revenue, outpatient visits and overall financial performance. The need to standardize systems in the physician practices and consistently increase productivity and accountability are priorities. This position is ideal for an executive who enjoys the challenge of building and growing a fast-paced physician network. The Vice President will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer for CFVHS.
We are seeking a seasoned and outstanding individual to serve as Vice President, Cape Fear Valley Medical Group, with a work history reflecting strong leadership skills in multi-site physician/ambulatory operations. The ideal candidate will have a background and in-depth working knowledge building, operating and growing an ambulatory/physician network. He/she will be tasked with evaluating the current operating system and implementing ways to increase the efficiency of the medical group’s organizational structure. The Vice President should have well-developed skills in operations, finance, business development, marketing, sales and strategic planning. He/she will be highly visible, have a hands-on style of leadership and possess outstanding communication, team development and relationship building skills. The successful candidate must be energetic, passionate, have a strong work ethic and work effectively in a matrixed organization. Experience building facilities and offices is strongly preferred given the rapid growth of the medical group.

Bachelor’s degree in business, health administration, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years progressive experience and a demonstrated track record of success operating and building an ambulatory enterprise/physician network.
