Pay Grade: 38 The University of Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) has an opening for a Public Management Fellow position. MTAS is an agency of the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service that provides technical assistance, training and research for Tennessee cities, state government, and municipal government related associations. This position will work for a Tennessee city serving as a member of the managerial staff providing support for the city manager and the city's department heads. Examples of work performed will range from research and analysis of various issues such as employee benefits, purchasing, contracts and franchises as they are renewed to analyzing and managing the budget process for one or more department's budget within one or more cities. In the latter instance, the position may serve as a team leader or coordinator in the development of the departmental budget. The position performs other duties as assigned by the city manager.
Qualifications Requirements: Education: This position requires a bachelor's degree in public administration, political science or a related degree. Master's degree in public administration or equivalent is preferred. Experience: This position is designed for MPA/MPPA students or recent MPA/MPPA graduates. Any previous experience would be considered but is not required. Job Skills: The successful candidate must also possess the following skills: 1) managerial, 2) analytical, 3) conceptual, and 4) interpersonal skills enable them to work in multiple environments and conditions. These skills will be used on a daily basis as the position works with various department heads balancing their concerns, issues and managerial approaches with those of the city manager. A high level of cognitive or intuitive skills are necessary to fully understand, design, and implement successful solutions to municipal problems. The position is a two-year, full-time limited duration appointment. Each employee who drives a vehicle for work related business must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
