A self-motivated candidate is sought for a leadership position in an interdisciplinary Computational Mechanics Research Group (http://compmech.utk.edu) that integrates numerical methods, supercomputing, structural mechanics, and imaging. This group collaborates with the Joint Institute for Computational Science (JICS) at Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) and the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) at ORNL to perform advanced computational simulation that is validated through integrated experimental test programs. Through participation with JICS, group members access nationally recognized supercomputing facilities and work with leading scientific experts (http://www.jics.utk.edu/). The ideal candidate is willing to mentor undergraduate and graduate students, collaborate with JICS scientists, and perform cutting-edge research to develop experimental test programs to support computational modeling in the fields of structural mechanics, additive manufacturing, and fracture mechanics.
Qualifications Requirements: Prospective applicants should have a PhD in engineering or a related field and an interest in numerical methods, statistical analysis, and structural mechanics, as well as strong interpersonal skills. The faculty member recently transitioned to academia following an extensive career in industry, and she seeks a capable, independent individual to take on a leadership role in her research group. Her previous position was managing a Physics-Based Computing Group, and her background enables her to prepare her team for careers in academia, government, or industry.
