Overview: The Associate Counsel will handle a wide range of health and higher education law issues pertaining to the UB Academic Health Center, its relationships with affiliated hospitals and research institutions, and its administrators, faculty, and staff.University: The University at Buffalo is a comprehensive public research intensive university. UB’s Academic Health Center includes five schools, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; School of Dental Medicine; School of Nursing; School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; and School of Public Health and Health Professions. It also includes the practice plans of the Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine, and affiliated hospital systems in Western New York. UB’s School of Dental Medicine operates a diagnostic and treatment center regulated under the New York State Public Health Law.
Compensation: Competitive compensation package.
Experience: The successful candidate will have at least 12 years’ health law experience in the higher education context. The Associate Counsel ideally will have gained health and higher ed law experience in a university in-house counsel’s office or law firm representing a university hospital, academic medical center, and/or faculty practice plan on graduate medical education, fraud and abuse, and clinical research matters. Familiarity with New York State procurement and contracts, laws and regulations governing clinical research, graduate medical education accreditation, and HIPAA and fraud and abuse laws are a plus.
