This is done in accordance with current standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long-term and skilled care facilities. Provides education and growth opportunities for staff based on identified needs. Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities: INFECTION PREVENTION Knowledge of nursing theory and practice normally acquired through completion of an accredited educational program for Registered Nurse. Knowledge of principals of geriatrics generally acquired through a minimum of 1 to 2 years experience in long-term care. Current State of Michigan Nursing License. Approximately 4-8 weeks unit-specific orientation under the supervision of a licensed professional necessary to become familiar with department/Hospital procedures and processes as well as to establish competency to perform duties required by position. BCLS certification within 90 days of start date. Ability to relate principles of geriatrics to the basic principles of epidemiology; rudimentary knowledge and understanding of microbiology and bio-statistics. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with healthcare team. Ability to provide care for residents in the following age groups: Adult – 19 to 65 years; Geriatric – over 65 years. EDUCATION Knowledge of nursing at a level normally acquired through completion of an associate's degree in nursing; bachelor's degree preferred. Current State of Michigan Registered Nursing License. Possesses a current BLS certification or completion of within 90 days of hire. Knowledge of principals of geriatrics and long-term guidelines and regulations generally acquired through a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in long-term care. Knowledge of education principles and instruction techniques normally acquired through 1-2 years of teaching experience. Approximately 4-8 weeks unit-specific orientation under the supervision of an licensed professional necessary to become familiar with department/organizational procedures and processes as well as to establish competency to perform duties required by position. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with other members of the care team. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, to complete principal duties and responsibilities. Ability to evaluate, interpret and report information as it related to staff education responsibilities.
