This position is associated with the Iowa Learning Farms program and Conservation Learning Group in the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department at Iowa State University. Iowa Learning Farms (ILF)is a highly visible and successful Iowa State University Extension and Outreach program and the Conservation Learning Group develops conservation educational materials for federal and state training. ILF was started in 2004 and is a statewide farmer-to-farmer conservation demonstration and outreach program. This position provides communications support for outreach, education and research concerning water quality, soil health and conservation. Provides program support in the development and production of communications pieces and conducts media relations for the Iowa Learning Farms. As a part of the Conservation Learning Group, this position will help with the development of six guides to accompany six on-line conservation training units, give policy initiative support on watershed funding research and serve as an editor on multiple publications. Communications products include documents, articles, fact sheets, newsletters, training manuals and policy based white paper. This position will work with audiences that include researchers, educators, administrators, the public, government agencies and the media.
The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, strong written communication skills, and attention to details. All staff members are expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience producing and editing major publications. Experience with mass mailings. Experience in media, editing, marketing, journalism, or related field showing successive levels of added responsibility. Experience in some area of natural resources.
All accrued vacation must be taken during the term of this appointment. Unused vacation will be forfeited.
