DARS is a campus-wide and comprehensive degree audit reporting system designed to automate the tracking of academic progress toward degree completion. The system was developed to help students, faculty, advisors, and administrators understand what requirements a student has fulfilled and what requirements he/she still needs to satisfy in order to graduate. The system provides staff and students with 24 hour access to degree progress information. DARS is a table driven, top down processing program. (DARS is the common name of the Degree Audit Reporting System. The current system name is U.Achieve from CollegeSource.)
The DARS Lead Encoder applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry-wide business process and analysis practices and organizational policies and procedures in regard to the Degree Audit Report System. In addition to working closely with Associate Registrar for Systems and Operations, this position is responsible for the operational oversight and management of the program ensuring that all UCSD Academic Policies and Regulations are accurately reflected within the DARS System. This position also acts as the DARS liaison to Information Technology Services for programmatic aspects of DARS and its relation to the campus Web Services System. This position is a leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field. Resolves a wide range of business process issues of moderate to complex scope; demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure.
Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
Thorough Knowledge of related areas of IT. A minimum of 5 years experience and expert understanding of the DARS software (U.Achieve) from CollegeSource, or a similar automated degree audit system. Up to date knowledge of changes within the DARS system or technical infrastructure changes as related to the DARS database, if applicable.
Strong skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture. Ability to anticipate, analyze and proactively address problems using reasoning, interpretation ad application of principles to achieve programmatic goals, effectively communicate program change alternatives.
In-depth understanding and skill in process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description.
Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem solving skills. Ability to handle multiple work priorities. Strong organizational skills.
Broad knowledge relating to software design. Understanding of intermediate level programming logic.
Thorough knowledge of business processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of University policy and procedure with regard to interpretation of catalog requirements; differentiating policy from practice; application of transfer course work, degree checking and final graduation clearance; procedures for exception approval and processing; governance of said policies and procedures for initiating change as related to the DARS environment.
Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Ability to interpret, test and analyze the quality of data and effectiveness of programming changes; make appropriate recommendations and approve completed status.
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to build campus relations to expedite work and projects, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within and outside the work group; Coordinate projects within or with other units.
Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word software packages; ability to create professional level training materials.
