The Head of Program Technical Delivery leads a cross-organisational delivery team. This is a wide-ranging, practical, hands-on leadership role in a fast-changing, highly multi-disciplinary and growing environment, aimed at further developing, implementing and managing the project function in Todae Solar.
This is a senior leadership position for self-aware individuals who, by their own example, can inculcate a project culture that works alongside and with a very diverse team of managers and innovation specialists to the benefit of the entire organisation and its project partners and stakeholders.
Operational Quality Management
Design, establish, document and maintain consistent practices and standards related to project and programme governance, including project planning, reporting, approvals and change control, risk and issue management
Provide coaching and mentoring to ensure the appropriate and consistent use of relevant processes and tools. This includes consultancy-style services to project teams throughout the project lifecycle
Provide line management for the core project management team, including their performance and professional development
Carry-out health-checks and advise on solutions during projects and programmes, for example, by facilitating workshops to ensure good practice is shared and lessons are learnt
Design, document, implement and manage effective reporting within and between portfolios and to SLT and the Board
Assist PMs and others with budget control, resource forecasting and billing
Maintain a list of resources, people's skills, attributes, roles and responsibilities, and work closely with recruitment on planning future recruitment and retention plans
Help with the acquisition of resources from third-parties (SMEs, agencies, project secondments, etc.) for the successful delivery of the program offices portfolio
FIRST YEAR OUTCOMES
Each member of our team has a shared responsibility to assist in the delivery of the rapid growth Todae Solar is experiencing as well as helping build a global reputation and a measurable impact in innovating solutions. The role-specific first year outcomes are:
Refining and delivering fit-for-purpose project management systems that are well used and understood internally, including tools, templates and clear governance frameworks, which build on and improve the existing processes and systems already in place
Ensuring on site Project Team Leaders and Project Managers have a clear understanding of the processes and tools related to project initiation, delivery and close out, and proactively seek support and guidance where they require it
Ensuring regular project reporting and decision-making for all projects is in place regarding project quality, KPIs, status, risks and finances, and all projects are reporting in line with funder requirements
Help to establish, sustain and enhance resource management systems to support organisational project resourcing, with a methodology established and implemented by month 6 regarding bid and project resourcing feeds into the ongoing organisational business planning process
Assembling and ensuring a small high-performing core team, line managed by you, to support the Todae Solar's growing program of work through wining future projects
These outcomes will be refined further upon appointment, with specific objectives established for the first 3 months, whereupon annual objectives will be agreed and confirmed in line with the role's responsibilities.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS
Professional qualification in project management
Proven track record of 7+ years in supporting the delivery of complex multi-stakeholder programmes and projects in a programme management office or similar, and/or in directly managing programmes and projects
Experience in establishing new systems and supporting the establishment of new projects, in addition to managing existing systems and projects
Understanding of a range of different project management methodologies that could be applied to projects in Todae Solar to support innovation
Solid experience in resource planning and management
Experience directly managing teams and people
Strong organisation and planning skills to build a new team and capability, with technical mastery in the main project management methodologies and processes
Flexible and pragmatic, able to learn quickly and respond to project needs and priorities
Ability to manage a number of projects and work streams simultaneously
Proactive in initiating new opportunities while ensuring strong delivery of commitments
Proven track record as a mentor, guiding and training senior and multi-disciplinary teams
Highly collaborative working style dealing with diverse internal and external stakeholders and with the ability to enable and gain commitment and influence across teams and clients
Strong communications skills, applying listening and learning to adapt and build better solutions. Effectively communicates expectations to team members and stakeholders, ensuring full engagement and partnership throughout the lifecycle of each initiative
People management skills with ability to build, guide and motivate
Experience of working in a consultancy environment and supporting the costing and administration of consultancy proposals and projects
Preferably a thorough understanding and experience of the administration of Australian government's WHS and regulations for Solar power
Good understanding of different procurement approaches and issues, including experience with a sub-contractor culture
Experience working across the public and private sectors is highly desirable, as well as knowledge of renewable energy projects would be beneficial although not essential.
