YingCai School is in search of a high school principal to start their new International School branch in Xiamen, China. YingCai School has been in place for over 50 years in Xiamen, China. Their programs span from Kindergarten to 12th grade. The International School branch will stem from the currently existing International Education Center (IEC) at YingCai School.
The IEC at Yingcai was established in 2007 to help prepare students for university overseas. Currently, there are approximately 220 students who study in the IEC. To gain entry, students must take a Middle School proficiency exam and have an oral interview in English and Chinese. The approval to operate foreign classes was given by the Xiamen Education Bureau in August of 2016. Last year also marked the beginning of the cooperation with United Student Advising Services, LLC and in June of 2016, a group of American consultants arrived to launch the College Counseling Department. With a mission to prepare students for the rigors of the American post-secondary classroom, the IEC is currently undergoing a major transition from a primarily Chinese model to a fully International Curriculum. As a result, the IEC now holds membership in the College Board and the International Association for College Admission Counseling.
Also known as High School, XYS’ Senior Middle School serves students in Grades 10 through 12 and has three divisions: Chinese Curriculum, Art Curriculum, and International Curriculum. Students who study Chinese Curriculum will take the Gao Kao exam and matriculate into universities in China, art track students focus on the visual arts, and the goal of students in the International Education Center is to continue their post-secondary education overseas. Students in each program take the Hui Kao proficiency exams in Grades 10 and 11 in order to receive a High School Diploma.
The IEC offers a broad selection of courses: American college preparatory, English as a Second Language, and Chinese Curriculum geared to the Hui Kao proficiency exams. The 2017-2018 school year exemplifies the curriculum in transition; the first history/social science classes and AP®, and Honors courses were offered. Currently AP® Calculus AB and AP® Chemistry and Honors Microeconomics are offered to Grade 11 students by closed enrollment. Entry into these courses requires teacher recommendations. Prior to these course offerings, students self-studied for the AP® exams. With the exception of the Class of 2018’s choice between Intro to STEM and Intro to Business and Economics electives in grade 11, all courses are currently chosen for the students.
The existing IEC foundation will serve as a launching pad for the new YingCai International School.
