Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Executive Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) within the Information Technology Group (ITG) at Columbia Business School, the Associate Director is responsible for managing/supervising the implementation of the school's IT project portfolio in accordance with the PMO's project management framework and governance model. Collaboratively work with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external vendors in project implementations. Provide guidance and educate ITG staff, stakeholders and project sponsors on project management methodology and project management techniques.
1.Provide leadership and coordination of project teams. 2.Plan, manage, and produce project plans and dashboards in reference to project status, life cycle and budget in addition to communicating accordingly and in a timely manner with stakeholders and sponsors. 3.Ensure project deliveries within the agreed time, cost and functionality. 4.Comply with existing processes that address risk management and change management. 5.Assist in governing and overseeing a project management framework. 6.Assist in defining and managing an information technology governance model. 7.Communicate project and project management requirements, status, issues, and recommendations to a variety of constituencies at the School. 8.Manage IT staff project managers and non-IT staff project managers and administrators, and be able to cross-functionally manage IT-related projects within the ITG group and Business School. 9.Identify, prioritize, develop, and present project plans. 10.Individually manage large, complex, multi-year projects, as well as numerous smaller project initiatives. 11. Handle special projects and assignments within the ITG organization.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of 4-6 years related experience required.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Practical knowledge of Project Management processes, methods and standards are required. Must be a strong leader with assertiveness and have excellent communication and negotiation skills. Must have strong organizational skills, quality-conscious and a structured way of working.
Preferred Qualifications: Entrepreneurial thinking and action preferred. BS in Computer Science or MS preferred. 3 years working hands on in a project management role or 5 years in a hands on system management role strongly preferred. PMP certification strongly preferred. Agile expertise desired. Candidates without PMP will be expected to receive certification within an 18 month timeframe.
