Under the direction of the Administrator/Controller, serves as chief operating officer of the Health Department and develops and implements programs and policies to meet the public health needs of the community. Directly manages the non-medical operations of the department, researches and makes recommendations for policy changes, and oversees the development of the departmental budget. Administers and enforces local, state and federal health laws. Serves as the Environmental Health Director for the department.
Job requirements include: Master’s Degree in public health administration, or a related field and seven years of progressively more responsible experience in public health administration. Registered Sanitarian preferred. Valid Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License. Thorough knowledge of the professional public management techniques involved in budgeting, personnel administration, and resource management, and the ability to identify and implement new best practices. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of population health, the State Public Health Code, State Communicable Disease Rules, Safe Drinking Water Act, and the Michigan Food Code. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public health, applicable local, state and federal laws and rules, budgetary and fiscal management, and strategic planning.
