General Statement of Duties: Oversees and participates in the work of employees engaged in the cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance of the university facilities and grounds. Inspects the facilities to determine the need for cleaning, maintenance and materials and/or hazardous conditions. Selects and recommends supplies, equipment and materials; maintain related records; performs related work as required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversees, coordinates, and participates in the activities of workers engaged in the cleaning and maintenance of the university facilities and grounds.
Participates in supervising employees engaged in cleaning and care of the university facilities and grounds.
Assists with the oversight and participate in the snow removal process.
Coordinate and participate in the locking/unlocking of facilities and related security tasks.
Oversees and assist with handling materials/equipment/supplies arriving at or departing the campus; moves furniture as required.
Inspects the facilities to determine the need for cleaning/maintenance and materials, and/or hazardous conditions. Participates in establishing work priorities based on the cleaning and maintenance needs of the facilities.
Determines the need and makes recommendations for supplies, materials, and equipment required to perform assigned work based on inspections and/or work orders.
Monitors workmanship and progress of assigned personnel to ensure efficient use of resources and quality of workmanship reporting such progress and any issues to supervisor on regular on-going basis. Evaluates and recommends training needs of assigned staff.
Knowledge of the principles, techniques, terminology and materials used in housekeeping, cleaning operations, pest control and related functions.
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used and the safety precautions to be taken in performing assigned work.
Possess current and valid Massachusetts’s motor vehicle operator’s license.
Ability to read, interpret, explain, and apply procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing university operations. Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions.
Ability to estimate type and quality of supplies, materials, and equipment required for maintaining and cleaning of university facilities.
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of supervision.
Ability to plan, organizes, and supervises the work of a custodial maintenance work force; to prepare reports; and to establish harmonious working relationships with members of the university community and the general public.
Ability to life and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; to climb ladders and scaffolds; to stand, bend, stoop, keel, twist, and reach for prolonged periods of time; physical stamina and endurance; possess mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
Performs related work as assigned by the supervisor.
