Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Associate.
In this role, the successful candidate will assist with the development and management of cancer clinical/pathologic database(s) annotated with clinical, pathologic, health outcomes and other patient-level variables, and coordinate the collection, processing and analyses of blood, urine, or other biological specimens ordered for cancer patients, with delivery to sponsor drug companies and central laboratories and with on-site or off-site storage for NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center investigator-initiated studies. Enter data into a data collection system as required by clinical research protocol(s). Independently perform duties in accordance with departmental, divisional and institutional policies and guidelines.
Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Database Management Build and maintain electronic databases in a specific disease management are to track clinical/pathologic characteristics and outcomes to therapies. a) Work directly with clinical research staff and faculty to design and configure databases b) Coordinate with other groups on campus to build similar and complementary databases. c) Work with individual investigators on specific research questions based on (or requiring build of) databases.
Lab Duties - Basic specimen handling under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists with the ordering and tracking of laboratory supplies. Under supervision, will participate in clinical research data analysis and processing.
Retrieve blood and/or tissue samples from the NYU Clinical Cancer Center and other hospital locations as required per protocol.
Assist with identification and consenting of patients to research protocols involving collection of specimens and clinical data.
Provides accurate data entry into databases as required per protocol. This may include clinical trial registration, data regarding blood and tissue samples and patient-related clinical and follow-up information.
Maintains working knowledge of all computerized databases needed to access patient data and enter specimen- and patient-related data.
Assists with maintenance of procedure binder for all protocols for which the NYU Cancer Center obtains or processes specimens.
Assist other department employees with clinical studies and/or various work assignments when help is requested or as schedule permits.
Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of Medical Center. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information. Effective oral and written communication skills are expected.
Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.
Performs general duties as directed by supervisor.
Packages samples for shipping, identifies appropriate carrier, arranges for shipping, and handles dry ice. Coordinates shipment of sample boxes with suitable airfreight carrier to the sponsor and verifies receipt of samples.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Associate's Degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field is required. This is an entry level trainee position with no experience necessary and a Bachelor's of Science; degree in Life Sciences or a related field is required. Experience with Excel and RedCap database management system is required and experience with biostatistics is preferred.
