The Manager of State Association Governance and Leadership is responsible for supporting the growth, development and success of state associations. Reporting to the Senior Director of State Management Affairs, the Manager of State Association Governance and Leadership will manage the creation of online and live governance and leadership development resources. This includes the development of toolkits, templates, and related content on the AANA website.
This role will collaborate with state leaders and senior-level staff to ensure that state associations are well served by the organization. This may include identifying and implementing new opportunities, providing resources, coaching and information and managing relationships between AANA, staff and members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Work with staff and consultants as appropriate to create content for governance and leadership development using different modalities (on demand webinars, live webinars and in person-live training).
Sets tracking program goals, outcomes and evaluation metrics.
Manages the orientation and development support for state association board members and other state association leaders. This may include role descriptions and orientation and succession planning.
Coordinate the logistics related to planning and marketing the governance and leadership development programs.
Provides on-site meetings logistics management and interfaces with appropriate staff at facilities to make arrangements.
Monitor and update website content as necessary, identify updates and ensure ongoing maintenance of organization’s web presence.
Provide consultation on association management and the procurement of association management services such as legal and lobbying services, web development, membership data administration, etc. to state association leaders, as requested by state associations.
Develop and implement strategies to maintain an effective network among state associations and between the AANA and state associations.
Monitor trends in association management and governance best practices and apply them as appropriate.
Evaluate state association relations strategies, programs and processes.
Actively monitor the wellbeing of state associations (financial, programmatic, leadership and/or staff), identify needs and recommend intervention when appropriate.
Develop, implement, manage, identify and coordinate programs that address state association needs.
Ensure all project-based activities are completed on time and within budget.
Manage special projects and other duties as assigned.
Appropriately manages highly sensitive and confidential issues and documents
Along with a passion for service excellence and the proven ability to drive results, the following qualifications are required:
A Bachelor’s degree in related field of study relevant to this position. Master’s degree or other leadership/training designations and experience in adult education are highly desirable. CAE credential strongly preferred.
At least five years of manager-level experience in an association. Health care association management experience is a plus and a focus on chapter relations is preferred.
Experience in developing continuing education content and knowledge of current e-learning technologies.
Previous experience planning, developing, implementing and evaluating continuing education programs.
Demonstrated working knowledge of association governance activities and Board functions.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to function as part of team.
Ability to delegate and make high-level management decisions.
Strong written, oral and presentation skills.
Advanced IT skills and proficiency with MS Office and volunteer or association management software and content management systems.
Excellent communication skills, ability to work effectively with members, Board of Directors, Committee Members, etc.
Strong project management, organizational and customer skills.
